"Maybe that's not traditional 'sub'" actually it's such a common part of the kink it has it's own name, it's called "Brat/Bratty sub", so if you look for that you should find what you like.

Maybe? I have read some stories where the person is 'bratty' and they are a little feisty? But they all still seem to fall into that trope of 'helpless in the face of most real life situations/sub in life as well as in bed' kind of thing.... I dunno.

Oh I'm sure there's plenty of fic like that, I myself don't read much fic so I wouldn't know, I'm just familiar with subbing while being defiant/an asshole in general. Of course being dominated is still the point, but it can definitely be what you describe!
