Speaking of overrated....

Or just bad - I was going to see 'Moonfall' at the theater - looked like something that would do well on a big screen. Ended up not being able to, got it online a couple days ago....

Holy hell, am i glad i didn't pay money to see that. What a bad, boring, stereotypical/tropey movie, with the most cookie-cutter characters and cringingly bad dialogue.... GAH. I couldn't even finish it, I just kind of skipped ahead to see if anything interesting happened and then it was the end. I've found that, just lately (last couple years?) most of the movies i might have seen in the theater turned out to be most definitely not worth the cost.

Roland Emmerich is bad! He's a bad director. And it sucks that he's one of the few people left with enough suction to get big-budget movies based on original concepts made.

I never can remember who directs what and usually have no clue. If that's his sort of movie-making/directing...yeah, that sucks.

Sucks even more it was sci-fi, which i love, and which there are vanishingly few new movies in that genre every year.

He’s made some movies I consider so bad they’re good, but those are really only Independence Day and Godzilla 98. The rest I hated or avoided.

I got sick of Independence Day after it had that weird brief resurgence in the 2010s, though. And I saw Godzilla 98 rather recently through a Rifftrax, and found myself enjoying the fun badness of the movie just as much as the jokes. I had only avoided it when it came out because my dad hated it, and I regret listening to him and avoiding it for so long.

But Roland Emmerich’s ability to make so bad it’s good movies seemed to die after the late 90s, and all he does now are boring bad movies. And I agree that it sucks that he’s one of the only directors that has been given enough clout and influence to make original projects, and also always big budget star-studded productions at that.
