It's an awesome movie. And you don't have to tell people all the details of the 'why', maybe just vague it up with 'family relationships' or something.

Watched that movie way back in the day, read the book...it is just really excellent.

It's a really good movie and there are some excellent performances in it. You could recommend it to someone on those merits, though I would tell them about it general terms to let them know about the heavy subject matter.

I would honestly just tell people it's got Mary Tyler Moore in something serious and/or Donald Sutherland and/or Judd Hirsch and/or Robert Redford's first directorial debut and you found it really touching and really connected with the actor's performances.

Wow I barely recognize Timothy Hutton here.

Hadn’t seen the movie, because I knew even back in 1980 that I don’t always do well with sad and heavy works. Although it helps that I was also too young to appreciate this movie in ‘80 anyways, and I was definitely too young to appreciate the book in 1976(?).

So I looked up the Wikipedia article on it to learn more about the story: And even that made me cry. Yeah, imma sit this one out, y’all.

(Although it doesn’t help that everything gets me weepy when I’m PMSing. Menopause can’t come sooner, I hate crying!)
