Re: Sleep schedule

(Anonymous) 2022-04-04 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
My sleep schedule was never really set. There was a rough timeframe of when I would try to go to sleep at night, although whether I was successful was another matter due to my insomnia that popped up during my teen years and has persisted to this day even with medication. And when I woke up was even more iffy, because it’s always been harder to wake myself up when I’m not ready, but not impossible. Although a lot of the times I wake up, I’ll be wide awake soon after, especially now.

But in the past couple of years, and especially this year, my sleep “schedule” is absolute chaos. I can’t sleep for long periods of time at night, even when I’ve stayed up all day. But I can sleep for quite awhile if I fall asleep during the day. I can’t predict or set a schedule for any of it, and it’s been a constant battle trying to get it to even resemble what a normal sleep schedule would look like. Often a losing battle. Time seems like a nebulous concept these days, and the terms “early” and “late” have become almost meaningless to me that I sometimes don’t know which of them applies to certain situations(not counting work and other things done on other people’s schedules, because those are almost anchors keeping me somewhat tied to the flow of days and weeks). I definitely have something wrong with my body, and an awesome anon gave me some great advice about what it could be, and it was nice to hear it’s not just me. Even if I of course wish nobody would have these kinds of problems.

My ideal time to go to sleep would be 9-11, and my ideal time for waking up would be 6-9. I never used to be a morning person, quite the opposite in fact. But back when I started naturally getting up at 6 instead of struggling to get up and feel fully awake before 10-12, I found I didn’t mind it. I actually quite liked it, that specific hour felt peaceful and nice to me, and I loved watching the sun rise. Now waking up at 6 would be sleeping in by a lot, if I even slept at night at all. So I’m still a morning person in that I no longer like night as much because I either associate it with being wide awake, or being eager to sleep through it so I can get to the next day.

This wasn’t a vent thread, I’m so sorry for the TL;DR!
