I judge people on how they hate the female characters.

Do they have double standards for the male and female characters.
Do they dismiss all 'femininity' as weakness, annoying etc. etc.
Do they use insults like slut, bitch, cunt etc. etc. rather than valid arguments.
Do they twist the canon to 'prove' why they should be hated.
Is there a pattern with their hate, in that they seem to hate an awful lot of female characters and then go 'but I like Eowyn, so I'm not sexist or misogynistic'. (Eowyn is just an example.)
Do they only stick to canons that a majorly populated by men and then say that the only reason why they hate female characters is because there aren't any well written ones.

I'm sure there are a few other examples!

I don't like all female characters, just like I don't like all male characters but the vehemence and the way that some people go about hating on these characters is... extreme. As such, people will backlash against that and a few innocents get caught in the middle. Try not to take it personally.

So you have to prove why you don't like a character? You can't just not "connect" with them and that be a good reason of itself? Do you also require that of anyone who dislikes any male character?

Word, dude - word.

With a lot of shows I just don't find myself really liking any female characters. I can't explain it, and I shouldn't have to justify my apathy.

I think it's perfectly okay to just not connect with a character. Sometimes people will really like a character but I just don't understand the character, or I don't find them interesting. Doesn't necessarily mean that the character is not well developed.

It goes for 'ships, too. Some 'ships I just don't like. Doesn't mean it's not valid or there are no reasons why it could work. Just means I'm not feeling it.

I fail to see how the above post could elicit this response, yes. As for the comment of "I judge you if X, Y, Double ZZ, etc." - to which I actually made the reply in the first place - I see precisely how it applies.

They don't usually have to prove anything, I generally don't engage in such discussions because people are so defensive and I don't like to argue. Hence I'm anon. You see people around enough and you see their comments and 'how' they hate. As I said, I don't like all female characters either, sometimes because I don't connect with them, but I don't hate on them and call them Sues and rage about them and call them sluts and say how they should die or be raped. I mostly ignore them, which would seem a normal response to a character I have little or no interest in.

But if you hate pretty much all female characters and seem to only hang in or enjoy canons with out them in (and use that as a defense) etc. etc and this seems to be a pattern I see, I judge you, yes. And I feel no shame. A lot of this sort of sexism and misogyny is unconscious and there because of the society that we are raised in, but when you are confronted with it, don't try and defend it, examine it and work against it.

And please don't use the old stale argument of trying to make this about men. Men are not heavily under-represented (in fandom and canon) or overly judged and hated as characters as female characters are in fandom. We can talk about that sort of equality once we actually have equality. But generally, if people are batshit insane in the way they hate characters, male or female, I tend to avoid them or think they are batshit insane. But I have never in all my years in fandom, come across a fan that hates almost all the male characters and loves the female ones. If they exist, they are rare and not really worth a mention. In other words, please to be leaving that straw man under your bed and away from this discussion.

We can talk about that sort of equality once we actually have equality.

I'm not talking about gender equality. I'm talking about liking or disliking a character based on their own merits. No straw man at all.
