Why would it occur to them to google it. "Gee maybe there's a reason he was so upset that's more serious than just someone making fun of his wife's haircut" is a hell of a lot of benefit of doubt.

Not really? And Googling a major story to find out more is pretty common, so I don’t get why you’re framing this like it’s not?

Like, some people don’t, that’s that. But you seem to be under the impression that these people are the majority, and that’s kind of weird. Not saying people who Google regularly are the majority either, of course, but... How do you think people find out anything they don’t already know? Googling things isn’t a foreign concept to most.

This is kind of a weird comment, to me at least, for as much as that matters. I’m honestly a bit baffled by you seeming to die on this hill that most people/nobody would ever think to Google something. Maybe it shouldn’t be as common as you think to just assume everything when the answers are right there in Google. Maybe “Gee maybe (possibly wrong assumption)” shouldn’t always be a go to? If you’re just thinking to yourself or talking with friends, yeah Googling everything is unnecessary. But if you’re going to share your opinion on something on the wider internet, isn’t it better to have your facts in order when they’re readily available?
