Who needs to be cis anyway? Play with it a little, you'll feel better.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-14 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Saying shit like this isn't nice. How would you like it if somebody said "who needs to be trans anyway"? Some people are cisgendered. Deal with it.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-15 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, TERF.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-13 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Being cis and enjoying crossdressing isn't necessarily mutually exclusive.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-13 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It is all part of the spectrum.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-14 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a matter of opinion.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-14 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That is what the man with the wooden leg said.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-13 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
i figured out i was trans in part because i enjoyed roleplaying and cosplaying male characters so much. i love how those kinds of hobbies let you explore whatever the hell you like and see how it fits without any commitment :)

(Anonymous) 2022-04-13 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It's possible but maybe you also just liked the character? I personally don't feel if a little girl wants to dress as a male character that she's automatically trans and in turn I don't think that little boys wanting to dress as female characters is necessarily an indicator of anything either.

But only you know the answer. It's fine either way. If you're curious, maybe try on some clothes you deem 'feminine' in aesthetic and see how you feel?

Also, cloaks are delightfully swooshy...

(Seconding "It's fine either way")

Her boots were pretty damn fantastic too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHw0P_ogC1M

Exactly. Maybe the people just like escapism and playing and aren't trans at all.
Every actor that donned women's clothing in Shakespearean times wasn't transgendered. They had to because women weren't allowed to join acting troupes. And so what if they liked it a little bit. Doesn't mean that they experienced gender dysphoria the rest of the time offstage.

Yeah, when I was a kid I always just pretended to be the characters I thought were cool. Sometimes they were female characters, sometimes they were male characters - that part never really mattered to me.

I keep meaning to watch this cartoon. Does it hold up? Or is it like X-Men the Animated Series where you kind of really have to have loved it as a kid?

(Anonymous) 2022-04-13 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It is the G-rated version of Vox Machina. If you liked the latter, but weren't sold on all the sex jokes, then chances are you'll enjoy it.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-13 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well shoot I might love it then. I wanted to like VM but those jokes pulled me right out.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-13 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
This is off-topic a bit, but: Considering I’m someone who loved X-Men the Animated Series as a kid, I never knew that it wasn’t considered good by people who might not have grown up with it? Or something like what you’re saying? I just thought it was held in high regard as far as comic-to-cartoon adaptations go in general, whether you loved or watched it as a kid or not, but I guess that’s not true?

I love it almost as much as Batman the Animated Series, which I know is held in high regard in general. So I just never considered that might be nostalgia talking.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-14 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I loved it as a kid and I rewatch it often, but it isn't what you'd call "good". The colors are 90's wild, the voice acting is full of accents that exist no where but in the imagination of Canadians, the animation is occasionally dreadful (but always exciting!), the plots are pure uncut cocaine fueled nonsense. It's amazing, and I love it because I loved it as a child, but compared to Batman tas it's almost unwatchable. 14th century peasants chase Nighcrawler with torches and laser guns. Wolverine fights constantly but can't ever actually stab people. The X-Men defeat the concept of racism by exploding a robot that pops out other robots.

X-Men tas has a bangin' theme song and zero shame and I'm so glad it exists, but I do not enjoy it on its actual merits.

Now in days people will recommend Wolverine and the X-Men to you.

Well shit, when you put it that way, I definitely see what you mean! I still love it all lot too, but I actually haven’t rewatched it in almost 10 years, and I wasn’t even considering all the off-the-wall craziness of those episodes and arcs! I was thinking about some of the emotional arcs I thought were really strong, but those might have been just as goofy as the rest. Talk about me having my nostalgia goggles on lmao!

Batman TAS at least holds up better, and I have rewatched all of it more recently (I rewatch it every year actually). So at least one of the shows I loved as a kid wasn’t not as good as I thought it was then! Pretty much just that one out of basically every other cartoon I loved from my childhood in the 80-90s, but still!

And I actually have seen Wolverine and the X-Men already. I thought it was quite fun and well-done, and I liked it in spite of really not being a fan of Wolverine in any version of X-Men except maybe X-Men Evolution. Although it helps that Wolverine wasn’t always front and center in every plot line in Wolverine and the X-Men, despite what the title of the show would imply. It was rather restrained in that aspect compared to the comics and the movie adaptations.

Da and I barely remember x-men besides the theme song, but now you’ve compelled me to find at least the eps you mentioned. It sounds like one of my types of amazing, thank you :)

Um...

I don't know how to explain it. The overall story arc and most of the writing is actually really strong and the animation is pretty good, but you also need to have somewhat of a tolerance for typical 80s cartoon cheese.

For example, Sheila's little brother is definitely the stereotypical cartoon bratty kid with an annoying animal sidekick. But as long as you can tolerate a baby unicorn bellowing MYYYEAAAHH! at dramatic moments, you're probably good.

I'll never know until I try! It's not streaming anywhere but maybe youtube will provide.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-14 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's pretty common for little girls to pretend to be male characters, I used to pretend to be Monkey because he had a cool staff and could ride on a cloud, and there wasn't really a female character on that show that I could pretend to be anyway. Maybe there's just more stigma against boys doing it because there were often more male characters to choose from, plus society being like it (is? was?).
That said, if you think there could be more to it than a cool character with a power that you wanted, that's great too.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-14 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I suspect sometimes the little girls pretend to be male characters because there aren't enough female characters doing things that they are interested in or can relate to, so in their minds they make the jump to being the males. Because the males are active characters, not passive.
