What's new with you?

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2022-04-15 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The good, the bad, and the ugly welcome.

I started working remotely. So far, so good. I am glad I invested in a quality standing desk. I also went to the doctor for a check up. Took them FOUR pokes to find a vein (I told them they roll). Apparently my vitamin D is crazy low so now I have to take a super vitamin pill for three months.

Oof. Right there with you on the vein issues. Bloodwork is almost always a pain in the ass.

Not much new with me, though I did recently get a new purse to replace the one that was falling apart. I've been reevaluating my diet and decided to let some vices lapse. Not sure how it'll go, but I've got some replacements planned (things that have worked in the past, hoping they'll work again).

I donate blood regularly so I am used to get poked. This nurse tried to take blood from side of my elbow, which hurt like hell!

What diet changes are you doing, if I may ask? I need to work on my cholesterol as well. :(

owowowowow

Well, mostly trying to not eat so much junk food (no impulse buys at the counter, no going to the store for the sake of getting junk food), or buy chocolate for the sake of buying chocolate. Not putting sugar in my coffee. Cutting down on eating out, and cutting back on the alcohol. I try to steam or roast vegetables, mostly greens. I bake seasoned/marinated chicken or fish (when affordable). For the craving issue, I got some Kashi cereal and some chocolate flavored almond milk (or whatever chocolate flavored milk substitute is available). Like I said, we'll see how that goes.

Congrats on working remotely. I'm glad things are going well.

I have a cold or something. Really sore throat.

I have a client who can't seem to understand that he lost his cancellation case because he had the asshole judge that everyone hates and who never grants anything. We offered to appeal for him. The client just keeps scheduling meetings to complain and try to get us to admit we did something wrong, which we didn't. I'm starting to get scared he's going to complain to the bar. We did everything right, he had a difficult case with an awful judge. But it is just exhausting dealing with him.

Oh dear, I hope you are able to get your client troubles worked out.

Thanks. He scheduled another meeting for Monday. But honestly I can't even think about it right now I feel so miserable.

Well, after two people in web dev quit a few weeks back, a third is also quitting after next week, and already I was the only person left who was comfortable using github except a guy who's in the National Guard and is only actually at work and not off training about half the time.

So after next week we're down three full-time staff and it's just me, boss, another woman who specializes in specific crucial applications, and National Guard guy who may or may not be around. And I've been tasked with revamping a system I didn't build but I at least touched it to update quickly a couple times, which is more than anyone else did.(Astonishingly, it's going well despite the fact it's for an event on May 6th and they didn't tell us it needed to be done until April 13th.)

HR needs to just freaking hire me full-time already. And stop being dumb about remote work, because it's definitely been a factor for at least two of the three people who left.

Oh yeah, that is definitely a job you can do remote! Crazy they are being hardheaded about it.

Yep, as I have noted, the college did not close during the pandemic specifically BECAUSE our IT staff could not only do almost their entire usual job remote (sometimes people had to go in and restart something), but we also - with no warning - set up a ton of online systems that handled things that used to be done in person so that the college went to online-only mode for a couple semesters. And stayed open and accepting students and issuing degrees.

But remote work is just not feasible, nope.

Remote work is GREAT. We're extremely busy at work right now, which means I'm working like 10 or 11 hours a day, and just the fact of not having to spend another 30 minutes getting to and from the office every day makes things so much easier.

Also, being able to work in PJs, that's nice too.

I got my new keyboard and I love the hell out of it. It's so pretty and loud. I've missed having a mechanical keyboard.
