(Anonymous) 2022-04-16 08:59 am (UTC)(link)Although most of those people are her hardcore fans who suffer from ReadAnotherBookitis, or fellow TERFs. I hope none of the people who are against her GC bs or hate her aren’t actually following her. Because that’s when it goes from just being against her to in a normal way to an unhealthy way. And following someone you don’t like is not just bad for you, but it’s also boosting her numbers, which is actually supporting her in the end.

Re: DA
(Anonymous) 2022-04-16 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)Now, there’s nothing wrong with that on it’s own. Not being into most books isn’t a bad thing, to each their own about what type of media people prefer or not. And some bookworms can be very snobby and elitist about the HP books, and they’ve been that way ages before JKR went Mask Off. But when they some of the loudest vocal minority HP fans invade general book spaces in droves, and try to make every discussion about books and literature in general about HP, it’s understandable to get a little annoyed. Regardless of whether it’s fair to generalize all HP fans by these vocal minority fans, which it’s not, it’s still not hard to see where some of the frustrations with the franchise comes from. That’s where the meme and sentiment comes from.
So I decided to make a joke out of the meme with ReadAnotherBookitis, which I thought would obviously be taken in jest instead of taken as some kind of attack on anyone. Whether you think it’s funny or not is up to you, and I’m not even going to pretend I’m actually a funny person who tells good jokes either way. But it’s a little strange to me that that’s the thing you zeroed in on. Considering I never actually insulted the books by referencing the meme, especially one that’s been repeated in F!S by many other people before. And also considering that I was in no way insulting the character of avid readers, past or present, just by referencing the meme. Joking that the very vocal minority of JKR stans should read another book isn’t inherently saying they’re bad books, and all HP readers are bad people.
Sorry for the disconnect, but I didn’t mean for my comment to be an insult to the books or the whole fanbase.

Re: DA
(Anonymous) 2022-04-16 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)I think they are good for their target audience, which I believe is children/young teens. JKR is not a bad writer by any means and the worldbuilding in Harry Potter is really cool and well done, but the characters are not particularly well written, if not for some notable exceptions.
It's very well done escapism with some great action scenes, but not an excellent 10/10 book series by any means.
I first read Harry Potter when I was 20 years old and I appreciated it as it was intended: a sometimes surprisingly dark adventure book about an orphan kid in a magic world aimed to children.
I despise JKR as a person due to her politics, but I'd encourage any 8-11 years old to read the books if they're into that type of stories.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-16 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)Yep. I don't have twitter and I don't actively follow that account or her in other social media (does she have any outside twitter? IDK). Still, I hear about her often enough because she's continuosly putting herself into conversation about LGBT (especially trans) issues and I'm part of the LGBT community.
I have to fight people following her believes and using her rethorics against people like me. Knowing what BS she's saying hurts me individually because I wouldn't want to hear ignorant stuff like that, thanks, but in the long run also helps me because I have some more tools to defend myself in my privare sphere when people not in the LGBT community use TERF rethorics against me.
Sometimes people forget that ignorance is, yes, bliss, but it's also a priviledge. (obviously not in all context this is true)
