It's a very strange movie. I honestly think Carpenter did an excellent job directing it. But the thing is, it's a movie that absolutely, completely relies on how cool James Woods is. The entire movie is staked on James Woods being the absolute coolest guy in the world. And this creates a slight problem because, as a matter of fact, James Woods is not actually the coolest guy in the world. A movie that relies on James Woods being incredibly cool is just never going to work. Of course it isn't going to work! It's a ridiculous concept from the start. You have James Woods doing the Kurt Russell, Snake Plissken thing. And fucking James Woods is not Kurt Russell.

I said this before but I can't even like this movie in a 'so bad it's good' way because I read the book long before the movie existed and it just BUTCHERED a good book. :( Normally I can be like, "Yeah okay, [Book] is book and [Movie] is movie." but not with this one.

Ive seen so many gifsets and fanarts for this on my dashboard/timeline and kept thinking "hm, this might be relevant to my interests" and then I found out it's a comedy show and all fleeting interest I might have had went straight out the window.

I feel you on not being into fandoms for comedy shows, idk what it is about them that makes me not crave fannish stuff because it's not like I don't love the shows. It's weird. But for me I also don't like pirate shows yet this one has pulled me in despite being off-genre for me.

Comedy is hard. And people don't know how to skillfully write comedic fic, so they tend to lean more into writing wildly OTT/OOC angst for comedy shows and it ends up getting super weird.

I've seen people bitching that Black Sails is too "sad". And like fine like its not for you, its a much heavier show, but NO ONE is trying to say that Black Sails is like OFMD. They are just pirate shows with queer rep. That are both amazing in their own ways.

I just wish people would just not bitch about Black Sails cause that show never got the love it deserved in the first place and watching uwuwu "no too sad too problematic" people coming for it makes me want to scream

What people tend to forget is that Jurassic Park Dinosaurs aren't actual Dinosaurs to begin with. They're genetically engineered creatures that look like Dinosaurs, with some sex-changing Frog DNA thrown in for a plot point. So, accurate Dinos were never really expected.
