I love this secret, especially because you included Klaus and Dorian!

But I don’t think I’d include Edgeworth and Phoenix myself. Edgeworth is definitely plenty uptight, and as introverted as he can be while on and off the job. But I think Phoenix is too down to earth to count as roguish/playful/sunshiny most of the time, although he’s probably an extrovert. Compared to Edgeworth he comes off a little more strongly. But I’m having trouble reconciling that with the Phoenix you control and see the thoughts of, the Phoenix who has to keep Maya & Pearl grounded while they’re investigating. He gets kookier after being disbarred, but he seems to become pretty much the old Phoenix after getting his job back.

Heh. As soon as I submitted the secret I rethought the wording, because Phoenix doesn't quite fit the exact descriptors I used and I knew someone was going to call me out on that. He is approximately as roguish and playful as one can be for a lawyer (and in AJ while not a lawyer he definitely was more so) but nowhere near the level of the others shown here. "Optimist" would have been a better word maybe.

I have a bunch of other pairings like that I might have substituted with the same general dynamic. I chose a few at random because if I chose even less popular ships than a couple of these, it would be even more obvious who submitted this secret... maybe that one, albeit popular enough to stay vague, was a bad choice.

It wasn’t a bad choice, especially now that you explain you had optimist more in mind for Phoenix, which fits him to a T!

Tiger and Bunny from Tiger and Bunny! Just got a second series on Netflix after all these years. Wild Tiger is an aging superhero and single father with really intense morals. Barnaby is a flashy but uptight baby superhero who only got into this scene to Batman about his parents. They get paired by their agency because Tiger is so unpopular. Sparks immediately fly.

Ooooh! I watched the first episode of that, clearly I should watch more lol. Thank you! Explains why they looked vaguely familiar.

Give Double Decker! Doug & Kirill a try while you're at it - an extremely stealth sequel that flew under the radar very badly, but has a lot of the charm of Tiger and Bunny with a rather different dynamic. It's a cynical and mischievous older cop and a spacey but completely invested baby cop who has no idea he's being bullied by him.

Oh no! I totally forgot I had started watching that lol! I think I got like five episodes in before ~*~life~*~. I've just recently started trying to watch/catch up on anime again.

And yes, those mercs. I was instantly drawn to Viktor in the first game and he just kept getting more and more hilarious... and Flik is such a great, snarky foil. (An old RP partner of mine still calls me "Bear" sometimes and we were BSing each other IC through postcards and attached gifts in Animal Crossing not long ago after I found out you can buy swords and bottles that look suspiciously like beer, lol. Will never not enjoy those two.)

I think I might have an idea of who you are based on your fandom choices, but I won’t say it.

Indeed, historically speaking, my identity in anon spaces is a particularly poorly kept secret. There seems to be little point in putting much effort into it. ;)

(Though I guess I'm kind of flattered anyone's paid attention enough to associate me with some fandoms I haven't technically been active in for at least a decade, but still like to discuss when I have the chance.)

I feel like I've had this thought too. And then sometimes I wonder if I'll be someone's sunshiney idiot too (when they can't manage to be/sometimes I'm outgoing, sometimes I'm more reserved -- will the person be even more reserved then me? Then I think what you thought. I think it quite a bit).

At first I kind of wondered if that's why I always wind up with those guys, since it's not like all of them don't also have a world of hurt in their own pasts just like the uptight introverts. And I too can put on a happy, upbeat face (working in retail, sometimes I just pretended IRL I was the "sunshiny" character from another ship who fits this mold, and I got a good rep for being helpful and cheerful). Just somehow they keep going and push through.

But my RL just keeps getting darker and darker and I was never good enough to help the "uptight introverts" that I have gotten together with, only made them worse. (And Kotetsu in the second half of the first season of Tiger & Bunny was relatable enough it was really hard to watch, between what specifically is happening to him and how he's stifling it because other people are hurting even more.)

So yeah, maybe I just want my own idiot and the only way to get one is to pretend to be one in RP, then at least they're in my headspace. Heh.

I love this dynamic, and I'm also the introvert in this scenario, but I prefer it when the two even each other out instead of just the shy one coming out of their shell.

Everyone here does make a really good team and all of them come through it better than they were alone, I think that's why I chose these in particular. (I had a 5th I was going to add that is maybe more exactly that than any of these, but small fandom and took part in discussions about it here recently, lol.)

I thought I had that not so long ago. I will admit I kind of miss that. Never going to happen though. Even if I last long enough to catch someone else's eye, I don't dare.
