You mysteriously gain the power to murder any one character; who do you choose and why?

Inspired by today's Secret #6, any character from any media franchise. Choose (un)wisely.

Fortunately(?) the fandoms I'm in are pretty good about killing off the characters who really deserve it, or at the very least making their horrifying existence interesting enough that I want to see where they're going with it. I keep thinking of horrible characters who should die painfully and then remembering they did.

If you mean retroactively, Clara from Doctor Who. She became such a crutch and it stalled a lot of the storytelling. After her first couple appearances as the Impossible Girl, she should have left permanently.

Burnham, the least interesting character in Star Trek Discovery, gone to that great transporter accident in the sky. If I had my way anyway. She is just devoid of any sort of interesting or memorable character, and I have never quite got over her most frequent bad-fanfic plot device origin story.

spike from btvs

i'd probably kill him off after the events of crush because there is no logical reason buffy wouldn't have staked him after that episode other than "the writers thought he was too cool / popular to die", and then we wouldn't have the shitshow that was the s6 relationship or the spike show that was s7

Huh. Do I get to choose the method of their death, like, idk, run over by a charging rhino or ages a thousand years in a second, do I have to kill them, or do they just drop dead of no apparent cause?

Part of me wants to say Hook from OUAT, maybe by getting run over by a taxi in New York before he even runs into Emma and co. The rape jokes got really old, really fast, and he never stopped being a sleazebag until they literally made (one of) him a different person in season 7.

But if I can choose any way for any character to die, Zelena from OUAT could open the Dark One Vault her own damn self instead of gloating while Neal did it. Possibly because Regina rips her heart out and makes her.

Wow, if Zelena had gotten killed off and Neal had stuck around I might actually have kept watching. I feel like that’s right around when I lost a lot of fondness for the show.

AYRT--yeah, me too. I stopped watching and just hung out in fandom after that. Zelena's daughter in season 7 could've been someone else's, and the writers could've avoided repeating the "rape is sexy if a hot evil lady does it" bs.

I just wanted Neal to get to spend time with Henry and reconcile (and clash, probably) with his dad, and work things out with Emma, whether that was coparenting and being friends, or being part of a Neal/Emma/Regina sandwich (dunno why, but I don't ship any of the possible couples with these three nearly as hard as I ship the OT3.)

Also I wanted to see him making Mulan watch her movie and teaching her all the words to "A Girl Worth Fighting For," and also that polyamory is a thing she needs to teach Aurora and Philip about, hint hint.

There are other shows where I noped the fuck out (Sleepy Hollow, wtf was that?) but none where a specific character was my biggest problem with it.

Okay, maybe Kylo Ren, but my biggest problem with the new SW wasn't him and I loved all the new characters but him. I just didn't want to get attached to Rey, Finn, Poe, and Rose because I don't want to watch a new trilogy 20 years from now where nothing has changed and all their hard work and sacrifices go to shit.

NAYRT

I booked it from Sleepy Hollow...by the time they shelved Abby. It felt like a train going off the rails. I couldn't. It for Jenny. Not for Ichabod. Not for anybody. The whole premise of the show was TWO WITNESSES. These two particular individuals. And it was a fun ride S1. And we all have to get off the ride by S2 or S3 because you have no more ideas, then that's what it is. But Abby was integral to the show (as a plot point originally and also in my opinion) and her relationship with Ichabod (and all the other characters frankly) was key. I'm over it, but I head the situation was super shitty for Nicole Behari so :/.

Xander from btvs. Mostly because, yeah, there's other awful characters in a lot of different series but most of them bring more to the plate than Xander's brand of nice guy assholeness and Xander gets worse and harder to watch every time I watch the show.

He'd totally be in my top 5 list.

Yup. They consistently set the bar way too low for him and praise him when he clears it :/

Ted Mosby, my least favorite character across any media.

Everytime I see this name I start thinking Mr. Mosby from the Suite Life of Zack and Cody and wonder why people hate him so much. Then I suddenly remember they're talking about HIMYM (a show I avoided because I couldn't stand ANYBODY) and it all makes a bit more sense (though I didn't watch it long enough to know why Ted Mosby is so reviled).

Tony Stark after his third movie so some other characters could have theirs. Also, maybe some story lines in Endgame wouldn't have sucked balls. (Natasha deserved AT LEAST a fucking funeral)

I recall being in the theaters for Endgame and the scene when Clint says something to the effect of "It should have been me", someone in the audience said "Yes, it should have". I cracked up, but damn they did Natasha dirty. She had grown on me over the series and in fandom my favorite friends to see hanging out Sam, her, Bucky, and Steve. Her and Steve had a sibling like relationship.

+a billion

They did so many characters I love so dirty in Endgame. Steve, Natasha, Clint, Gamora, Scott, Thor...

At least Steve, Clint and Bruce mourned for Natasha, although I agree that she deserved a funeral.

She did get a funeral, Hulk threw a bench during it.

Probably Chakotay from Voyager. Either he dies in yet another shuttle crash (which would be tragic because Voyager only has so many shuttles available), or he gets killed by a couple of alien lumberjacks who mistake him for an ambulatory tree.

You'd kill Chakotay ahead of Neelix? You're history's greatest monster. Personally of all Voyager cast, I'd kill Harry Kim. Just to put him out of his misery, poor dumb Harry.

Loki, at the end of the first Thor movie. His fandom would still have been insufferable, but it at least would've been a little more contained.

Griffith, because... well, now we won't ever get to see Guts do it. I've actually fantasized about this in some level of details.

I'd murder Primrose Everdeen two books earlier. Because it would've been interesting if Katniss had lost her motive for fighting and had to find a way to keep going anyway. But mostly because I always hated the little brat.
