Re: Are you banned from anywhere (online or off)?

Just like the anon above me, I managed to not be banned in my 20+ years internet life until last year, at 33 years old, when I got banned from a subreddit because I commented about their cersoring policing in ANOTHER unaffiliated subreddit.
I was not even that harsh in that comment and I was even a member (albeit not active member) of that sub that banned me, but yeah... permabanned just because I voiced disconfort about a post in there promoting false believes and general misinformation and the mods censoring disapproving comments under that post.
I fucking hate the internet nowadays and I almost quitted reddit altogether that day. Fucking echo chambers everywhere, I swear.
I still have a reddit account and I sometimes comment on my fave subreddits, but the whole experience of being banned because I voiced a reasonable concern about censorship still makes me angsty.

Echo chambers definitely are everywhere (ha! oops), even in safe spaces, and you do have to be careful to recognize them. I've found Reddit can vary wildly in quality, especially in subreddits and their mods. Voicing a concern respectfully is no reason for a ban, much less a permanent. But it also sounds like that isn't a good subreddit to be in anyway.

AYRT
Oh yeah, I do wholeheartedly agree.
Reddit is wild and not a bad platform itself and the quality varies A LOT depending the subreddits. I actually appreciate the variety of them, but unfortunately Reddit as a whole has problem with moderation, especially in big subs.
The sub I was banned from was an innocuos one that usually had fun feminist memes and autocelebratory selfies from minorities. I liked that sub and its positive vibes a lot, but that post I commented about was just WRONG on so many levels. It was filled with ignorance and a lot of untrue unfounded citations and sources that nobody actually cared to check out. I was actually hurt by the fact that the mods decided to silence anyone that didn't align with the OP's view.
No critical thinking allowed whatsoever. That sub was just a reminder that most of the people using the internet just don't want to / don't have the tools for checking out sources. Everybody is just waiting for the next post/article/videos/tweet that will play onto their confirmation bias (and I'm guilty of this, too, not gonna lie). Sometimes it just gets tiring.

YO SORRY FOR THE RANT
