Yeah that sounds more like a reading issue, especially if you've already made the whole "discussed, decided it doesn't matter" RIGHT THERE. the only way I'd figure it might be how you phrased it (but even then, as a reader, you may or may not miss something -- not everyone wants to or will write something explicitly; but it sounds like you had, vs. a throwaway line (using your example of condoms) such as "protection was a passing thought that held no water here.")

Sometimes with people, what they expect to see (or not see) trumps what's actually there in words. It's weird, but I see it happen with secrets on FS all the time. It's like people pick up on a few key words, jump to conclusions about what OP is trying to say and then (especially if it's a fairly common topic) they quickly post a counter-argument to something OP didn't actually say.

Some people like to feel superior. Some people have poor reading comprehension. The Venn Diagram between the two groups isn't quite a circle, but there's some heavy overlap.

I'm sorry you're getting obnoxious comments. If it's on AO3 I say you delete them from existence. If it's on tumblr or some other site idk what you can do about it except ignore these folks.

Huh. I didn't think anyone in the military was meant to be seen as a total hero (that was...kind of the point of everything Mustang's faction did and said about their roles), and it seemed clear to me that she was too much of a hardass, but very effective for the parts she could help with.

Then again I'm OOTL for the modern fandom. I'm still in relieved shock we're not reliving the RoyEd and Edvy days.

I am indifferent to her for the most part. I have always interpreted it that while she is capable and her austere and harsh leadership fits the climate and needs of where she is stationed, she isn't meant to be exempt from the criticism of the military (a huge theme in the story). Yeah she is badass, but that's more of an author appeal thing I think (Lust is cool and strong, let's not get into Riza and Izumi - this is definitely not a negative btw). Olivier always seemed like more of a "I do what I have to do and focus on that" type character, who lends support but isn't ever going to be a person who spearheads institutional change like Mustang. She focuses on doing her job and saving the people under her, instead of looking at the mistakes and genocide too closely. She definitely lacks the driving need for redemption of other notable military characters (although I can't remember if it was stated she was part of the Ishvalan genocide, or was still up North for that).

Itls late, hopefully this sounds coherent! I also haven't read FMA in a few years.

I feel this. She was actually one of the reasons why I put the manga on hold like 10 years ago. ....and then I never got the chance to finish it. One day... one day I swear I will finish the last volumes... That I actually bought back then.

I think the marketing was misleading and I can't stand what they did to shift the focus - as such, I think the idea was ill-conceived as a continuation. But then, I haven't wanted to watch anything Terminator past The Sarah Connor Chronicles, so perhaps I'm the wrong audience. I just generally ignore the entire existence of Salvation, Genisys, and Dark Fate (and, okay, sometimes parts of Rise of the Machines).
