Eurgh! god, that thing sets off my uncanny valley alarm SO BAD. (Not Chewie. Chewie doesn't freak me out at all.)

they went way overboard with the porg for reasons i don't understand. was it to sell porg toys/merch? because it felt like a sales pitch and it gave off minion vibes. (i don't look at sw merch so i can't say for certain.)

they were to cover up all the puffins on the island they were filming on. But instead of just covering them up, they decided a few should have some CGI antics b/c I'm assuming lucasfilms. (I mean it, CGI people. sigh.) It probably would have been better to just stick with CGI-ing out the puffins.

You can buy merch of them. I dunno. I'd have to talk to a kid to see if they liked them or not. They definitely weren't meant to appeal to adults.
