There were some episodes I really enjoyed early on; I think I might have stopped listening sometime around the episode about Sicilian Oranges or something? I forget. I heard there was an over arching plot going, and frankly, I just really enjoyed the whole "weird thing of the week town radio vibe". I also heard Carlos got a voice actor? I only wanted to enjoy Cecil and those weird times Desert Bluffs crossed over.

Same, except I think I gave up sometime after the elections? I really liked the "weird of the week" with recurring characters so it felt like a town but once there was an actual plot, it felt like I had to pay attention/keep up, which was tiring for something that had been relaxing and fun.

I started listening when it first started airing but I am shit at keeping up with things so I think I only got up to the double live episode, but I don't remember the exact episode number.

I just remember loving it because the sass seems too come through much clearer on lives.

Yeah, pretty much same. When they had their live tour in Europe they had a show somewhat close by and a friend was still very much into it at the time so I went with her to be nice but I hadn't listened to the... last 15 or more episodes at that point and was kinda meh about it. And yeah, imo creator always had this condescending douche vibe that just rubbed me the wrong way.

Me personally, I got a bad vibe off the Start With This podcast

the thing I saw going around tumblr was about a crackdown on fan merch; on the one hand it's a small outfit and their own merch helps them keep afloat; on the other hand arrrrrgh; on the gripping hand it sounds like the process was super dickish

I (quietly and without fanfare) ragequit after they wrote an entire backstory for Koshek explaining exactly how he became a cat trapped in the men's room. NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE EXPLAINED.

They what? That's so dumb. The whole point of Night Vale was that the weirdness wasn't explained! That was why it was so much fun!

I don't remember why I lost interest and I'm sure there were more pressing problems, but I always hated that they'd stop everything to play a song every episode. I was listening while bike riding and so had to stop to get my phone out and skip. Super annoying, esp if I had good momentum going. If I wanted to listen to music, I'd have played music.

Excuse you, how dare you skip the weather, don't you need to know what it's going to be like outside??

I don't think this is a podcast that should have gone on for as long as it has been by this point (the creative juice have run out on the idea, especially considering that it worked best when things were very strange and mostly unexplained), but I get that it is hard to kill a project that proved to be so successful (relatively speaking).
