Re: Swearing?

Yeah, swearing's really hard, you also have to get the tone right to get the intended meaning across. I guess in OP's place I'd find some media with people of roughly the same age and culture/social group as their characters to try to get the rhythm of it. It can also be a very individual thing, so if you really feel that your character would swear in a particular way you can probably write them that way.

I really would love to hear what the OP is working on! Like, if it's fanfiction the canon is probably a help but if it's not you're kind of in trouble because most media either plays up or down the realistic swearing for ratings.

In general (unless it's the US army or marine corps, lol) it's better to under-swear than over-swear because we're so used to swears getting cut that over-swearing can seem juvenile.
