Do you all daydream stories for characters even if you don't write fanfic?

I do and if I had the ability to write stories, I bet my fics would make kudos bank because they are indulgent BS.

+1

Honestly, the most self indulgent bs ever and the plot would be so thing there's barely holding anything together but emotions and excitement.

Oh, so many things I make up in my head that I will never write, even though I do write fic. They're usually half-baked ideas or one-shots that need way too much setup that I just can't pull off. But they sure are fun to daydream about.

I daydream stories a lot and write down maybe ten percent of them.

I do this all the time. Most of it is just a bunch of half-formed ideas, trying to create likeable Mary-Sues, crack crossovers, or PWP.

I have so, so many daydreams about certain characters that I will probably never write as fics because they are straight-up idfic for a couple kinks (well, not literally kinks... leanings?) I will never admit to. Maybe brief mentions somewhere in the midst of a "real" story but that's it because I'm quite certain no one wants to read a whole fic about them.

Yes. Writing is beyond me at the moment but I still have my comforting daydreams, or the little stories I envisage before going to sleep. It helps.

Daydreaming is the only way I can get to sleep. I have whole worlds and stories made up that are these big massive crossovers. Usually mary sue things where I'm the big hero who saves the universe.

Only stories I can actually write are PWPs. Because I'm good on big picture things but bad on the little details and the dialogue except when it comes to smut.

Yep, all the time, because my otp isn't popular and anything I'd write would be completely self-indulgent with an audience of like maybe 3 people, lol.

I write down maybe 10% of what I create in my mind, which makes me "the one who randomly reappears in a new fandom once every 3 years, writes a masterpiece and disappears for the next 3 years" in the "which kind of AO3 writer are you?" quiz.

yes

I did this constantly before I started writing fic, and I still do after! Especially because some of the story ideas I fantasize about feel too personal and self-indulgent to post. And sometimes I don’t think they would make for the best-written fics, but boy do I still enjoy daydreaming about them!

I do write fic, but my daydream stories are different-- though sometimes they can cross over. But usually my daydream stories are like... more wildly self-indulgent in a way I don't think other people would 'get', or they're what I would do to fix someone else's fic that I love x about but not y.

Same to all of this!

God, so many. A lot of them are pretty fleshed out, too.

My strengths as a writer: ideas, concept development, poetics.

My glaring weaknesses: literally everything else. :(
