Oh yes, that would have been awesome. Especially if they hadn't undermined it at the end by making it all about his mother rather than, you know, everybody that was killed.

Ooof, yeah. Whether or not that was what the writers intended, it did come off as “I would brush off your role in systematic genocide, but unfortunately, you killed my mother.”

Note: I know little-to-nothing of the comics. From the film alone, it seemed both tone-deaf and unsatisfying.

I'm onboard, OP. That was my favorite part of the movie and what made me fall in love with that iteration of Magneto.
