Darcy Lewis. They really made her annoying in Thor 2. And she shows up in EVERY fandom.

Tony Stark. He was focused on too much in the MCU.

Negan on TWD. I hate the way JDM played him. I stopped watching the show because of him.

I liked Tony in his own movies, but I started disliking him when he started being the focus of other people's movies and every single Avengers movie even with the ensemble cast. And then everything was still about him after he died.

Darcy was annoying to me right from the beginning.

Sasuke. He just bugs the crap out of me.

Atoli from .hack//GU. My god what an irritating moralizing hypocrite.

Currently? Jeanne and Dominique from The Case Study of Vanitas. An anime that would have been great if there weren't any unnecessary love interests with bland (Jeanne) and annoying (Domi) personalities. The time I spent watching it is now a waste because they were so cliche it ruined everything. And no, it's not because they were 'in the way' of the two main guys. I didn't ship them either.

Man, I'm late replying, but I agree 100%. Especially for Jeanne. I'd love to like her, but I just find her bland and her as love interest is awful. One of the reasons I couldn't get that much into the fandom. I loved Pandora Hearts, but Vanitas no Carte was just... MEH. Even if some ideas were REALLY interesting. The characters' relationships and especially the love interests are not so good. :( Lost interest halfway and didn't finish the series.

Hook from Once Upon a Time. The rape jokes got really old, really fast. Zelena, also from OUAT--the rape got really old really fast, especially since by the time she showed up the writers knew from the reaction to Regina just how mad people would get about it.

I tend to dump series if I really hate a recurring character, particularly if it's one that I'm not supposed to hate.

With that said, Arden (aka Princess Pity Party) in the Toby Daye series just generally annoys the fuck out of me. In a series where almost every single character has a tragic backstory, maybe the literal magical fairy queen shouldn't be the one who whines about it the most.

Every time this question is asked, my mind immediately goes to Gwen Cooper from Torchwood. She was supposed to be the Everyman introduction into the show, but she very quickly became the Mary Sue - supposedly good at just about everything, and so attractive that everyone was in love with her. Her actual actions were of an arrogant asshole - assuming that she was good at just about everything and that everyone found her attractive. Like, did the writers not notice????

And before anyone tries to claim I just don't like her because of Ianto/Jack - I hated her waaaaay before that became a thing. The disconnect from what she actually did to what the narrative tried to say about her happened pretty much on day two.

Re: Least favorite characters

(Anonymous) 2022-05-01 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, so much this. There are probably objectively worse characters out there, but her shitty personality combined with the fact that the writers (and RTD in particular) clearly expect the viewers to adore her and root for her while she's being a whiny, obnoxious and entitled idiot is just... no, fuck off, preferably for good.

This. Some of the stuff she did I could have maybe forgiven because the whole team had their own flaws/lies/etc. (team hot mess) but when she basically roofied Rhys to make herself feel better that was the last bit of slack I cut her and I just couldn't stand her anymore.

Oh word. It's been years since I've seen Torchwood. But I remember she was brought in as the moral center. And she never did her damn job.

She was good in Children of Earth. But I feel like that was a bit of a soft reboot.

Rachel Berry forever and ever. I went to school with a girl just like that and I'd rather cut my own throat out than ever be in the same room as anyone like her ever again. So insanely selfish and not half as talented as she thinks she is.

Agreed, she’s unimaginably awful and annoying!

Steve Rogers, Loki, Hawkeye, Hank Pym, and Doctor Strange, but only the MCU version in the case of Strange. I’m fine with Steve and Loki in the comics most of the time, but they get on my nerves in sometimes there too depending on the run. And I actually used to like MCU Steve at first. I understand people who like him, or came away from Civil War hating Tony instead, but I don’t personally agree(although both Steve and Tony were awful in the original Civil War comics in my opinion). I also understand people who dislike how much Tony takes over every movie he’s in, on top of being in too many movies, which is not a problem Steve shares, but I still dislike Steve more. I’ve hated Hawkeye and Hank Pym from the beginning, and the MCU versions were no different.

I also really don’t like Wolverine, with the minor exception of some of the animated adaptations.

I don’t really like Bakugou from My Hero Academia, same with Mineta. I don’t outright hate Bakugou as much as I used to, but he will always be one of my least favorites.

The Doctor, from first to dead last in only five years. Thanks a lot Chibbers and Moffatt. Now go die in a fire, both of you. Help fight climate change, and make it the same fire.

Maybe it's sad that the first character I thought of was in an anime that aired almost 15 years ago, but: Sheryl Nome.

The way she is supposed to be the Embodiment Of Womanhood even though she is clearly just an annoying teenager just freaks me out. Yeah, she is cute, stylish and sings well, fine, whatever. But talk about an annoying teenage Sue that ruined the anime for me, ugh.

The first character who I thought of was also the main female character from a mecha anime that isn't quite that old but still pretty old. I never saw Macross Frontier myself, but our reasons for not liking our respective characters are surprisingly similar. I didn't list my character because me and one other friend I have who loves her are practically the only people who watched the show, and she (friend, not character) would know it was me.

To be fair, male mecha anime protagonists tend to be annoying teens too, but I feel you.

Well, I am not your friend but I am super into mecha anime myself, so if it's something like Captain Earth or Buddy Complex or Valvrave I will have to agree with you!

I love Sheryl to death, so this hurts a bit lol. I love Ranka also. I’m an OT3 fan, and this Sheryl/Alto/Ranka has always been one of my faves.

Aw, sorry. I think I would feel just moderately "ew" about her being a teen Sue if it wasn't for the ending and her fans, who desperately clung on to the idea of her being this Embodiment Of Womanhood. I simply "wasn't a fan" in 2008 but it aged badly.
