I miss the very earnest TV movies that Disney (The Disney Sunday Movie, The Magical World of Disney, etc.) used to put out*. A lot of made-for-TV movies now seem pretty cynical to me**. Give me Earth Star Voyager (my favorite), give me Mr. Boogedy, give me I-Man, give me The Last Electric Knight, The BRAT Patrol, Student Exchange, Rock ’n’ Roll Mom, Double Switch, Double Agent, Bride of Boogedy, Not Quite Human, and The Thanksgiving Promise (some of these are up on YouTube, by the way).

I’m not saying I want things to be like they used to be, but… no, screw it, I’m old and I want this thing to be like it used to be, even though I recognize it actually can’t be.

*Disney Channel Original Movies are their own thing and don’t evoke the same feelings for me
**Okay, some of the holiday TV movies are pretty earnest, if not quite what I’m looking for (and I don’t know if it’s my imagination or not, but the amount of earnestness seems directly proportional to how many Canadians are involved)

I get you! I don't think it's simply a case for nostalgia it seems the In thing to lampshade, like, the genre the show is and I'm kind of sick of it.

It's fine for comedies and shows with a lot of humor but I wish so many shows would stop trying to nudge nudge wink wink and just say here is the premise and play it straight. If you're insecure about your show about children astronauts facing off against space pirates or something then don't make a show about child astronauts vs. pirates.
