On one hand, that will change very little in terms of what's already been reality. Abortion has always been technically legal but functionally impossible in the states with heavily anti-choice governments, with many not even having any abortion clinics. The states that would choose to keep it legal will do so, and luckier people from the shittier places will keep relying on donations to make trips to those states.

On the other hand, that nothing has changed in terms of shitty men refusing to fuck off and mind their own business is depressing.

If they strike it down, same-sex marriage is probably next, and who knows what else after - segregation? I wish i had a fucking tenth of idiot Musk or Bezo's money so I could set up abortion clinics in every state and/or start a program that got women the money and transportation to get to one.

You can check your voter registration at https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/

Vote in every election, great or small. Midterms, runoffs, federal, primaries. It all builds from the ground up. Read up on the candidates. Even if you don't think your vote will do anything, just vote. Remember that the people who support everything you're against are going to vote too. I don't want to be spreading fear, but 2022 may be our last chance to turn things around (seriously, don't wait until 2024), so do what you can to show up.

And as Slate pointed out, it is specifically worded so if the Republicans get a majority in Congress and can get a statute passed that makes abortion illegal, that would be fine. Specifically, it doesn't say which type of government legislature, state or federal, should be allowed to make laws regarding abortion.

I thought I'd burnt out on doomscrolling sometime after 1/6, even with Ukraine I mostly check the news once a day, but here it is 1:40 am and I have work tomorrow and my brain is full of profanity interspersed with white noise.

I scrubbed my bathroom floor with headphones in and music at dangerous decibel levels chanting "do something productive with your fear and anger" to myself but now I'm back on the couch alternating staring into space and shivering and wanting to break things and projectile vomit.

And I'm a 38 year old asexual virgin in CA so unless the rethugs cheat their way back to control of the House and Senate by a veto proof margin or steal the presidency and enact a federal ban, my chances of being forced to carry to term are pretty damn low.

But even setting aside the horror of forcing people to have kids they don't want (for the parents and kids both tbh), decreasing access to abortion is a pretty good indicator of a democracy going to shit, not that there aren't plenty of other neon signs.
