I agree and I think people should also strongly and seriously consider piracy.

Yup.

Criterion is the love of my life for this reason. Also, boo to streaming originals having no print version. What I would do for a physical copy of 'Apostle'. :0(

SA
Oops, didn't mean this in reply to your thread! Although I do agree piracy can be beneficial at least in terms of archiving (I have no qualms admitting I have watched certain shows 'for free', so to speak).

(Anonymous) 2022-05-06 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
tbh it's kind of relevant to the thread! because IMO streaming originals that have no print version are one of the circumstances where the argument for piracy is strongest

(Anonymous) 2022-05-06 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, if I buy something to support the creator, and it's not something I then irrevocably own, I pirate a copy too.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-06 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. Frankly I was glad about streaming because I don't have enough space for DVD, but experience is just really really not good.

Unfortunately, for many of us, that's still not an option, since it's not the *cost* of the streaming service, but the fact *we can't stream at all, in any way, due to not having internet available that will allow us to*.

+1

(Anonymous) 2022-05-06 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Tangentially related I suppose: As someone who does a whole bunch of long-haul driving across sparsely populated areas, I'm still shocked at the fact that most people don't maintain their own library of music files for use with an mp3 player/phone nowadays!

I think apps like Spotify or iHeartRadio made that a nonissue for many people, honestly. I personally still load up my phone with mp3s from my library and have all my cds burned to an external storage drive, so much easier.

What?

Which part of the comment that you're responding to is opposed to people buying physical media? What are you talking about?
dantesspirit: (Default)

[personal profile] dantesspirit 2022-05-06 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
The fact that *pirating shows still involves streaming which many of us still cannot do*.

Never said a word about buying physical copies.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-06 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The secret says "The streaming wars are making a really good case for buying stuff on physical media again." The post you were replying to said "I agree [IE, 'I agree that the streaming wars are making a really good case for buying stuff on physical media again'] and I think people should also strongly and seriously consider piracy."

How on earth could this be interpreted as some kind of suggestion that no one should ever buy physical copies and everyone should pirate? or some kind of an insult to people who are unable to piracy?

[personal profile] dantesspirit 2022-05-06 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Please tell me where exactly I said we shouldn't buy physical copies. Protip- I never did.

Please tell me where exactly I said it was an insult to those of us unable to pirate. Protip- Never said that either.

I did, in fact, state that piracy was still not an option for those of us who cannot stream at all, because it wasn't about the cost, as many seem to think it is, judging by other comments on pirating. That was it. Period.

You are projecting words that I never once said.

You spun a whole tapestry out of nothing dantesspirit actually said, just so you could be mad about something. Maybe find a hobby. Something that could channel your energy in a more productive way than making up positions and to get angry at. That’s the kind of bad faith behavior that leads to using strawmen.

And it’s really weird that you read the original post dantesspirit responded to enough to quote it, but didn’t actually take the time to read or comprehend dantesspirit’s posts. Because if you actually did, then you would know they didn’t say any of the things you’re asserting they did. How on earth did you get the nonsense you pulled out of thin air from anything they said? I have trouble believing anyone can misread their comments this badly on accident, so it really does seem likely you willfully did so in order to invent something to argue against.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-07 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Give it up. You misinterpreted. Digging in is just bad faith.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-08 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
This.
