It is definitely a weird distinction! True Grit is the one that's the most interesting to me, because the John Wayne version is an incredibly loose adaptation of the original novel, whereas the Coen Brothers one is an extremely faithful adaptation that doesn't really reference the first movie in any way. But the John Wayne movie is the only part that most people are familiar with - so from a pop culture point of view, it's a reboot of that.
