You are not wrong.
And AO3 filtering system and search are not really up to the task when it comes to removing stuff you don't want to see from the results.
I use AO3 Savior userscript.
It will not remove fics from search results, but it filters them (and every other tag, writer, and/or summary word you put on the blacklist) out of sight:

(Works on desktop computers, I don't know how to do it on mobile, I don't surf web on mobile)
