Best use of sex scenes in film and TV?

What films or shows do you think have the best sex scenes? Not necessarily the hottest — although that’s good too — but also scenes that are particularly visually interesting, character-revealing, plot-advancing, unusual, etc.

I liked some of the early Supernatural sex scenes because I thought they were very accurate to at least how I personally think the characters would do sex.

Ficus and Princess Libido having "pollinating" in Quark! It's a) hilarious, b) exposes how ridiculous it is to expect alien species to mate the same way people do, even if they're humanoid, and c) .... may even be a tad sexy (your mileage may vary).

The one in Eastern Promises which served a legitimate plot and character development purpose. That sex scene genuinely strengthened the film and the story was better for it.

This may seem weird, but I always found the first sex scene in 'Watchmen', between Daniel Dreiberg/Nite Owl II and Laurie Jupiter/Silk Spectre II was just...really good. Not particularly hot, and not even successful in terms of it all working right, but it just really fit those two, it seemed more natural and less contrived than a lot of sex scenes. I dunno. I mostly hate sex scenes in movies, but that one didn't bother me.

The best use of sex scenes, for my money, was in the first two seasons of Masters Of Sex, and, in particular, episode 2x03. Where sex-as-plot is concerned, it's hard to do it better than that episode did it, IMO.

My favorite "sex scene" might actually be the not-a-sex-scene between John and Cameron in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I just find it so exquisitely ambiguous and emotionally devastating.

I love the sex scene in Mr & Mrs Smith. It's OTT but manages not to tip over into full on camp. It's tongue in cheek, but hot as fuck.

Buffy and Spike's first time is indelibly etched in my memory. Fuck that was a scene. So hot and so messed up.

And okay, IDK if this one is actually good or if it's just nostalgia talking? But the Sebastian/Anette sex scene in Cruel Intentions has always stuck with me. Mainly I give credit to the use of Colorblind by The Counting Crows, which I think made the whole thing feel a bajillion times more raw and intimate.

I am going to think of like ten more as soon as I post this, ISTG.

I liked the one in the first Terminator movie. Uhm, the way it reversed the dynamics with the physically strong combatant being a shy virgin and Sarah Connor the damsel taking the lead? It was a nice character touch.
