Yeah, that's fair, there's no denying that Lucas' direction was a major problem. I've personally never really liked him in anything else so I still tend to be a little dubious but it's absolutely possible he could have been good if given a better script and direction.

Yeah. I really like the prequels, but they could have been much better. The Empire Strikes Back did really well and is the most popular among the OT fans because someone else was in the director's seat. And Lucas' wife did a lot to keep the worst of Lucas out of the OT.
