Seems like people are confusing him with Lucifer (of the TV series Lucifer, not a different fictional version or even the actual Lucifer) who does that a lot

I thought he wore sunglasses to hide that fact that his eyes are not human eyes, rather than because he doesn't like them. I never got that impression from the book....

In the book, the reader doesn't see Crowley's eyes until the bookshop burns down. Granted, Book!Crowley's kind of a coward and him losing the glasses is heavy-handed symbolism for having no place left to hide and finally having to face things head on. But still, one of the things he's hiding from is that he's not really just a cool guy with a sweet ride and funny job, he's the Serpent of Eden and he has the snake eyes to prove it.

I still did not get anything like 'i hate my eyes/myself' from book Crowley.

Fandom practically hurt itself giving him Issues.

Oh, he definitely does have issues. I just don't think the eye thing is one of them.

I didn't either. It's not like he actively flaunts them in the book, it's more he's trying to pass as fully human, so hides them as a result.

Well, he also briefly turns into a snake-headed eldritch monster just to scare someone who's annoying him (the paintball people), and he's fine going without sunglasses before they were invented (the Noah's Ark scene, the Crucifixion scene).

I don't see any evidence at all that he doesn't like his own eyes. He just doesn't want to freak people out by accident - only on purpose.

He does wear them around other demons, though and wears them in Hell. No humans to freak out there.
