I totally agree with this.

One of my favorite Riker scenes is the one from The Price where the smarmy negotiator Ral is trying to needle Riker about the negotiations. And he tries to make Riker angry about the fact Riker's not with Deanna and he is. And Riker just completely shuts him down, there's absolutely no jealousy or anger, Riker is just like: if you can make Deanna happy, I would be absolutely delighted, she's her own person and not my property, but if you think you can use that as a tool to get me mad you're an idiot. And usually with a typical male lothario type of character he would be possessive and angry and competitive and defensive in a situation like that, but instead it's absolutely calm and self-assured. And that's Riker in a nutshell.

Yes! Riker's appeal is that he has a strong moral center and is very secure/comfortable with himself. I thought he was kind of boring when I first watched TNG as a teen, but the older I get, the more I like him.
