(Anonymous) 2022-05-13 12:46 am (UTC)(link)Second.... I mean, look, I completely get why someone would ship Doom/Reed, it's the most obvious ship imaginable, and it's a classic for a reason. If you're into shipping enemies, you can't do much better. With all of that said, I think Doom/Strange is a really great ship and it's much more interesting to me personally. Part of that is that Doom and Strange are two of my favorite Marvel characters. Nothing against Reed, Reed is fine, I just like Doom and Strange more.
And I think the fact that Doom and Strange have a relationship with more grey areas in it is really awesome. Doom and Strange are not automatically enemies. They will often be at cross purposes, because Doom is Doom, but they don't really have to be. With Reed, Doom is always going to be Reed's enemy unless there's some really, really pressing reason not to, and so much of their dynamic is bound up around that fixed point. With Strange, it feels like there's more room for Doom's character to breath, and I personally prefer that. Strange is relatively unique in the Marvel universe because he's a good guy who is not going to immediately treat Doom as an enemy, and he's also someone who Doom can legitimately respect. So Doom can play off him in a wide range of ways. It's a really fun dynamic. And of course there's still room for a ton of angst and great relationship dynamics. And like you say, Stephen is the one who helped save Doom's mother.
Which ship you prefer just comes down to a matter of taste, but the relationship between Strange and Doom is phenomenal. Whether it's shippy or platonic tbh, fantastic either way.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-13 03:32 am (UTC)(link)It's been explained way better upthread but yeah, Strange/Doom is a fascinating ship in its own right, and there's a lot you can do with it. And they've interacted a fair amount in the comics, not just Triumph and Torment (which is one of my all-time favorite Marvel stories).
There's no shortage of other guys to ship Strange with in the MCU if you want. Tony and Loki of course like you said, also Peter if you don't mind the age gap, Wong, Mordo, and there's a small contingent for a while that was shipping him with Everett Ross (because Martin Freeman). Kind of surprised him and Kaecilius didn't take off bigger than it did, honestly. Mads Mikkelsen! Canon bondage!
(This is going to get wanky because of a character introduced in the end credits, lol, and yes I do enjoy that ship a lot in canon, I don't mind m/f)

(Anonymous) 2022-05-13 05:23 am (UTC)(link)And I’m glad you realized they were wrong, OP. Because what they’re doing and saying is absolutely gatekeeping, and it’s completely shitty. And while they’re so wrong about their accusations, what would actually be wrong about these shippers genuinely being fans who migrated from the MCU canon to the wider comics fandom? Nothing. There would be nothing wrong with it. This territorial gatekeeping attitude people have towards fandom migration is arrogant. Yes, some of the new fans who migrated from elsewhere might be annoying, and might not be aware yet of any rules or something like that you have yet. But to treat every new fan who’s migrated to your corner of the fandom with this immediate scorn is wrong. Especially considering the fandom doesn’t belong to one person, or one circle of people. It’s like high school cliques all over again.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-13 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)B) I'm assuming using MCU Strange and the thinnest possible characterization strung together from the Fox movies. That makes some sense, I sure haven't dug in there to know.
C) Sue deserves better.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-13 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)Considering Jan always deserved better than Hank Pym, I approve of this ship!
