Do you check under your bed at night, or inside your closet in case someone got in during the day and is just waiting for you to go to sleep? Because I do. I blame all the headlines about the Golden State Killer when I was a kid. And then we had a teacher at school who taught us about the Hinterkaifeck murders in Germany. So, fun times.

Not usually, just sometimes after I get back from trips. I don’t usually get paranoid and scared to the point of panicking often anymore, not since I was a teen, so that’s why I’m especially frustrated with myself for getting this way last night. But I’m probably being a bit hard on myself for a mistake. And I definitely will try to only read about scary things during the day from now on.

But I get how you can get lasting paranoia after hearing about horrific murderers as a kid. The old urban legend about the escaped killer hiding under someone’s bed is admittedly one of the reasons I check whenever I’ve been away from my house for a while.

I’m especially appalled that a teacher would teach kids about those murders, though! I was a very easily scared kid, and that kind of thing would have traumatized me so much!
