I’m curious if OP enjoys other cable TV procedural mystery-of-the-week shows because I thought Elementary was an above-average example of the genre.

It was also an interesting adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes characters (much preferred to BBC Sherlock). But yeah, I didn’t find the individual plots riveting.

I think I don't really like mystery-of-the-week stuff. Also procedurals are not my thing. It hurts to say it, but at the start BBC Sherlock was more fun to me than Elementary

DA - I'm 100% with you about Elementary being extremely boring.

My interest in procedurals and the episode-of-the-week format was on its last legs when Elementary started airing, which was part of it. I also just found the writing extremely mediocre. But like, exasperatingly mediocre, not fun mediocre.

Yup. I fully acknowledge that early-seasons Sherlock was a hot mess of fluke wins and false promises, but in the early days all those flukes and bluffs were pretty damn fun. Until it became obvious it was nothing but flukes and bluffs all the way down. :(

Exactly! I was getting bored of this format and Elementary's writing is... OK. Characters are good, but they are not enough for me to be interested.

At first Sherlock was exciting and then you get to the point that it goes nowhere at all. And all this excitement was for nothing
