Idk what the pronunciation was supposed to be, but I read somewhere that it was supposed to be a metaphor/fantasy stand-in for nuclear weapons, and at one point aslan says that humans on earth are trying to harness things as dangerous as the deplorable word, which I assume was meant as a direct reference (coming not super long after WWII as the book did)
