Favorite/least favorite seasons and why

[personal profile] philstar22 2022-05-18 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Autumn. I love fall leaves, I love Halloween, I love the cooler temperatures, I just love everything about Autumn.

I loath Spring. As someone with a lot of allergies, spring makes me miserable. So many sinus headaches. I currently have one that has lasted 3 days and makes my teeth and eyes as well as my face and neck hurt. And I cough so much people often think I'm sick. I'm counting the days until Spring is over, just as I do every year.

I love winter because it's cold and rainy. Plus I get to wear all my favorite sweaters. I hate summer because it's hot as hell and I have to either have my house totally dark with blackout curtains or spend a fortune on the light bill.

I love winter too, even though it doesn't get as cold here in Texas. It does get cool, which is nice. And while I don't hate summer as much as winter, I definitely don't love summer. And I'm less likely to spend any time outside due to the blazing heat.

My favorite is winter because it's really nice here in winter.

My least favorite is all the others.

Winter is nice. I miss snow, though. We don't get that here in Texas.

Yes agreed. Please pollen go away.

SUMMER. I love everything about summer. If it could just be between 25 and 35 degrees (77 to 95F) for like six months of the year (without disastrous ecological consequences), that would be heaven.

I live in Vancouver, and I feel like it's been March here for four months now. It is going to be March forever. Seasons no longer exist; just March.

I feel like Vancouver would have a much nicer summer than we get here. I don't love anything over 90, but we regularly have 100+ degrees in the summer here.

Vancouver's weather is miserable for anyone who likes heat and dislikes rain (me). However, I will admit that temps over 35 degrees are too hot to be enjoyable (especially as I can't afford an apartment with AC).

My favorite is autumn. I love the whole aesthetic of it, from the leaves changing colors and falling to the ground, to the autumn sunsets. I love the way the temperature is cooler, without being as cold as winter. I love autumn food like everything pumpkin, so may spiced foods and drinks, apple cider and pie, sticky toffee pudding, garlic roasted chicken, turkey, sweet potatoes, and all manner of baked goods! I love Halloween, and all the spooky and fun atmosphere of the weeks leading up to it! It’s also the season of my birthday, Nov 13. I don’t like Thanksgiving, but that’s only an American think that doesn’t affect autumn everywhere else. I mostly only dislike it because I hate a majority of the food, and everywhere I can go to eat out instead is closed. So I end up making something completely different than traditional food. I also can barely stand to look at most of the Thanksgiving food, because I have a serious aversion to mushy and slimy food. I physically can’t swallow any food that has that texture, even food I like the taste of like pumpkin pie. And most of it’s just gross to me, so I don’t go to most family Thanksgiving dinners, and every single member of my family is aware of this and stopped trying to make me ages ago. If I ever have kids, I’ll make myself, but for now? No thanks.

I hate hate hate summer! I hate the unbearable heat and humidity, that seems to be harder for me to deal with each year! I hate the sticky, sweatiness. I hate how indoor places turn on the AC too high to compensate for the outside temp. It feels great at first, but then it makes the dampness of your sweat feel freezing. I live near the beach, but I don’t like going to the beach at all, so it’s not a relief. I don’t like going to the pool either, I haven’t since I was a child. At least there’s an ocean breeze where I live that makes it slightly less hot and humid than landlocked places, but it still doesn’t make it much better. Speaking of where I live, I hate how summer brings hurricane season, and the possibility of evacuation. I hate the constant severe thunderstorms and tornado watch’s and warnings. The storms would be okay if they didn’t threaten to constantly turn into tornadoes or to knock the power, and thus the AC, out. And where I live in Florida, it rains predictably at around 3-4 every day during summer. Which would be fine if I didn’t have places to be most days during that time, I hate being rained on. I hate how the chances of sunburn are so much worse for me during summer. I hate the amount of out of towners clogging up traffic, which already sucks in Florida. I don’t mind most out of towners most of the time besides that, but there are some obnoxious, drunken ones who treat the whole city like their personal stomping ground. At least traffic on the street near my neighborhood isn’t as bad when school is off for summer break, but that does mean that there’s a lot more kids running around all of a sudden. Which isn’t always a problem, but can be depending on the situation and/or individual. There’s also a golf tournament during summer that brings people from all across the country to see it for some reason, and that makes traffic the absolute worst. That’s also in front of my neighborhood. I’m also not much of a fan of many of the holidays that happen in summer. Independence Day is fine in some ways, I obviously support the purpose of it just like Thanksgiving, even if I don’t like some aspects of it. I love cookouts with hotdogs, burgers, and sides like onion rings or fries, as well as pies for dessert. But I really don’t like fireworks much, especially because they make my dogs so anxious and scared. I’m moving to Asheville, NC next year, so maybe some of my complaints won’t be as strong. But some of them I know will remain.

Love spring because I have allergies all year round so there isn't much of a difference. The warm weather and pretty trees are very enjoyable to me :)

Hate winter because I have seasonal depression and get colds easily

I love absolutely everything about fall. I'd probably put spring second because I also love thunderstorms and seeing new flowers everywhere (and I'm lucky enough to not have pollen allergies, so that's a major factor) (also where I grew up, spring was the one season where we didn't have to deal with mass amounts of tourists and could have single local wonder that wasn't about them)

I'll take winter over summer any day because I love hot drinks and soups and blankets, and absolutely despise sweating and bugs. And I always feel so forcefully ugly in summer--if you have any fat or body hair or cellulite or whatever, it's all on display or you're dying of heat. In the winter, on the other hand, everyone's in sweaters and I can wear the clothes that actually make me feel nice.

Summer needs to die. I live in the PNW and it got up to 116 last year. Most people don't have air conditioners up here because we track the severity of our summers by days over 90 degrees. It's been steadily getting worse for years.

hope nobody thinks this is a wimpy answer but I think all seasons have their positive and negative qualities so I change my mind about that a lot. Right now I'm liking spring a lot because the weather is really beautiful where I live right now.

Spring is the least good in general, because allergies, and fall is the most broadly good - fall is a good season under pretty much all conditions, it doesn't really have any downsides, it's very comfy and and it has a lot of cool little traditions.

Summer and winter are more conditional. They can be really good under the right conditions but it varies so much based on where you live and who you are and what your circumstances are. No way to make a general statement about either season.

The exact opposite of you. The internet's autumn fetish has made it even worse.

Spring and Fall. Not too hot or cold yet, plenty of sunny days, and also a good amount of rainy ones. Things are either just starting to bloom, or just starting to go dormant, resulting in beautiful colors.

Summer is my favourite and winter my least favourite for the same reason: I have seasonal affective disorder and live in Northern England. Spring is quite nice, too, though it usually takes me until mid-season to shake my winter funk.
