AYRT--I'm in coastal California and only about 25% of people wear masks at my work anymore, which is with the public. My coworkers are pretty good about it except for the antivaxxers; we have several, sigh.

Since I have no life outside of work I probably picked it up there, but short of a customer spitting in my face and then waving around their positive results, HR won't entertain anything that might result in a worker's comp claim.

Grr. Sorry you picked it up despite your caution; I hope you feel better soon. I have lungs made of wet tissue paper and am fat so idk. I walk a lot, although I can count the number of times I've done the 11 miles I'm aiming for tomorrow on one hand. At least if I collapse on the way I can call an ambulance, I guess?

Honestly, 25% is pretty good compared to where I live - wish this was just "woe is me" but I just came back from a class with around 30 people and three were masked (me, another student and the teacher - the oldest there). The kids really seem to think they're invincible. Ironically, 5 (that's right: five) teachers are currently sick. Who's winning? Lol I swear I feel like one of the last pro-vaxxers here. Don't even get me into my job, which I basically gave up on (currently on a sick leave because even my psychiatrist feels sorry ...) because nobody in the office would bother with masks even though we have to visit crowded slums often, yeah just keep spreading this s* *sigh* This "post-pandemic" craze fully awoke my newfound killer instinct honestly.

It's okay, thankfully

(whoops! SA) --thankfully I feel a lot better already, my recovery was surprisingly fast. Hoping you can find a way to be there without, uh, having to walk 11 miles which is crazy. Are you sure your own company doesn't offer anything to facilitate your PCR since you already have a positive on rapid testing? (I assume a company wouldn't want COVID to spread among their workers, but as you can tell I keep being proven wrong since the """end""" of pandemic.)

(SA again!) Just one last thing, forgot to add: the bad news for you is that some kinds of COVID that affect the GI tract only can't even be detected through nasal/oral PCR which is why I didn't bother with testing (as I barely had any symptoms other than being unable to ingest anything for days due to the horrible sickness ... ) but since you did rapid testing and it was detected, maybe it'll be? Not sure. Maybe this should serve as a plea to your employer anyway. Good luck!!

AYRT--glad you're feeling better. I was 4.5 miles into what turned out to be a 6 mile trip to the testing site (got up at 5:00, left at 6:30 am) when I checked my work email and they said I could send a photo of my positive home test... which is what I sent my boss yesterday.

So I pissed off HR by sending the photos when I was on my way home and being like "well I expect my PCR results in 2 days, thanks for letting me know after I already walked a half marathon while trying to eject my lungs and the full walk ended up being 12.6 miles.

Gonna go die on my couch for the rest of the day, and be mad for what this augurs for employees who didn't walk 2,560 miles last year and aim to do the same this year. My blood pressure and cholesterol and heart rate all may suck, and I'm not fast, but I am stubborn and was fueled mostly by spite and anger.

No one should have to beg to get special dispensation for shit like this. And there are employees who just... wouldn't be able to get tested, because like me they don't drive or have anyone who can take them (and I wouldn't ask anyone who wasn't currently positive to drive me anyway), but are still where I was on day one, hanging onto the toilet for dear life and choking on puke, or are feeling better but just can't walk or bike as far.

Whew. Good job, anon :) do take your time to rest since you've earned it anyway, you really need to recover. Yes, true. Unfortunately it's not any different where I live so of course people just end up going to work when they feel just a little better and soon everyone is infected unsurprisingly. It's a shame they are like that - not only it's humiliating to the employee (obviously) it's downright counterproductive. Go figure.

AYRT-people who test positive even on an at home test can only return to work 10 days after they first had symptoms unless they test with a PCR as better on day 5, in which case they can come back on day 6 provided they wear a mask at work for the next 5 days (already wear mine anyway.)

If they test positive on day 5 they can't come in for 5 more days, and if they don't get a positive PCR test before day 5, they don't get up to five days of paid covid leave, and have to use sick leave or just not get paid, depending on whether they have enough saved time off.

So people who are inclined to lie just don't get tested in the first place if they can avoid it, and infect everyone else.

Exactly. It's insane. This is probably how we wound up with 5 sick teachers in my course too (no, the course isn't refunding the classes they had to skip either, they just go "*shrug* whoops". It's not in me to blame the teachers for getting sick either, obviously, but damn, why is everyone so *irrational*?).
