Test run in progress. So what do you think about that commenting system?

Here's why I really, really hate this idea.

I saw at least one comment on my secret go up while the mod was putting together the individual comment threads. I guess because that comment was in the wrong place, it got deleted. This means instead of encouraging comments on my secret, my comments actually got removed. This makes me sad. :(

Dude, that sucks. I know if this dumb idea actually becomse reality that I'd just ignore it and post all my replies in one comment (I don't have the time to search around and post in ten different threads -- and I don't even have a slow modem, like some other poor bastards!). But if it'd just be deleted like that... not only would it make me not bother replying to anything at all, but it also discourage me from posting secrets of my own.

Case should just keep the next secretpost private until he has all the threads prepared next time. Sorry, this is something we've learned for the future though.

That's not going to change the fact that any comments posted ouside the official threads after the post goes live are still going to be deleted. They'll have to be, otherwise there's no reason to make the official threads in the first place. Comments will be lost every day, because people will screw up every day.

This idea is really the pits.

But they are all still there, aren't they?? There's like a page and a half of comments posted below the final mod thread.

(Anonymous) 2009-04-05 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
They are now, yeah. That's not how I thought this was going to work, and frankly makes no sense. Why have the official threads if separate comments are allowed too?

If the posts that don't follow the rules are deleted, that is the poster's own stupid fault. Sucks for the secretmaker, but they should blame the mods because the posters are too stubborn to follow the rules.

I screwed up, deleted mine, and reposted. And then I went about commenting more than I usually do.

Just a personal counter-argument.

This, so much. And reading more as well.
