Just guessing here but 1) I'm guessing people who comment outside the designated threads are too lazy to read, follow instructions, or maybe it's like a type of protest. Rather than throwing a fit though, and deleting all those comments, I'm thinking it's a live and let live situation.
Also, people who want a more focused and easily findable discussion have the means to do so with the new system. People who just want to comment all at once can just do what they want afterwards and both can be happy.
Seeing as how the majority are voting yes to the new system, no harm is really done with outside thread commenting because there are enough people interested in the new format to support threaded secrets regardless. The only people really missing out, if anything, are the people who are posting their comments outside the threads because now people might have less of an inclination to sort through that stuff when they know where to find what they're interested in. But hey, since some people like that kind of style, they can have it their way too, no?
2. It's good for a reference instead of scrolling all the way back to the top when I want to find out why a particular thread has so many comments or so few. I can just copy/paste the link in a new tab.
