I never even knew this sub existed tbh, but I'm still grieving it's loss.
Like, this is perfectly respondent to how much I hate the direction fandom is going nowadays. I miss actual forums (not that dreamwidth doesn't exist, but///) and the ability to have separate, ongoing conversations to form your fandom niche while still being aware of different ideas that might actually add more insight to your favourites even if you don't specifically interact.

I don't even care if I'm just seeing things through rose-tinted glasses or not at this point. Platforms like tumblr, twitter, and even discord, are so isolated. There's a feeling that you're either in with whatever the most basic, bland, boiled down stereotype that's the most popular at given moment (so much that you wouldn't be able to tell the different between characters like freakin' Hannibal or SpongeBob for the most part) or being excluded for thinking. No other option.

Being called out that a creator might look you up on a Reddit forum of all things is complete bullshit. Same with fanfic writers being such assholes that they can't accept anything but a standing ovation.

Like literally I saw an author throw an absolute hissyfit in the comments of a fancomic I was reading on AO3 not too long ago (and quickly dropped thereafter) because someone asked for a simple translation of the main speech bubble because the author decided to write the climax of their comic in Japanese characters with no context whatsoever. Even though the reader responded that they didn't speak english as a first language and didn't know why they were so offended and //actually apologized// just in case they spoke out of line. The writer was trash enough to double down on their own opinion instead, throwing in sarcastic remarks like, and I am literally quoting here, "In short, don't worry so much about it. Sometimes things are not immediately accessible and that's by design. Or as they say, "All according to keikaku."*
*Translator's note "keikaku" means "plan"."
(fun fact: they deleted half the convo since I actually looked them up just to copy paste that)

To make matters worse they responded to a different reader not that long afterwards with the actual translation, along with the shitty remark of:
"I tend to leave things obscure on purpose, to encourage people to do a little digging, but since you asked so politely I don't mind explaining."

So like now that I'm done ranting and all-!
If you're posting things on the internet for nothing but feedback then deal with the fucking feedback. People are actually going to be nice like 90% of the time, and that absolutely includes constructive criticism. It's there to help, not hurt, so take it or leave it. If you're shit enough to think "Not Beta Read- We Die Like -insert dead character/men here-" means the same thing as even a half assed attempt to look over your work, then maybe you should take the hint and at least do a run through before you blindly pass go?
