it absolutely can be. face off, while having it's occasional conflicts, mostly just featured artists helping each other out, admiring each other's work, interactions like that. a general lack of cattiness despite outright being a competition.

Face Off is up there it one of my favourite competition shows precisely because it's not about the conflict. My absolute favourite may be MasterChef Australia for the same reasons.
