Recently I checked my old LJ and the first post went something along the lines of "If you aren't listening to anything now I highly recommend this song, it's super moodlifting!" and it was just Orion wo Nazoru. I think this is a bit of an universal feeling, lol. (And GetBackers! How can anyone get sad with Namida no Hurricane!)

Hahahah, I can't imagine how it COULDN'T be a moodlifter. The tone of the guitar is just perfect, the drum breakdowns are fantastic, and that little catch at KARUKU SUPASTAAAAAAAA gets me every time. :D And it's even better for me having been introduced via T&B because hearing it brings back the feeling of knowing, every time I heard it each week (or was it biweekly?), I was in for something new and exciting with a bunch of TOTAL DORKS.

Same for the GB openings, of course. I'm probably most fond of Barairo no Sekai of all the GB songs - and then the last ending theme, I remember when that started airing and everyone in the fandom was like "....WTF DID WE JUST WATCH WTF GUYS" XD

(...And I just put that on and instantly my Masaki/Teshimine shipper gene activates. -_- I'll at least pull out the ol' userpic.)

AYRT - It's really so good!! Yeah, the memories are good too. USQ is a band I don't listen to much, but Sugar Song and Bitter Step makes me feel happy too and I didn't even watch the anime (what was it?) so maybe I should. Damn, anime songs are POWERFUL when they remind you of Fandom Days.

Barairo no Sekai is so cool! It's probably my favorite too, but for some reason it's kind of sad to me? Maybe some memory I don't remember clearly. Oh, THAT ed theme... yeah. LOL.

(Good one!! Oh boy, this is making me want to rewatch GB. Such nostalgia...)

See the thing that gets me about Barairo no Sekai has always been that little bit in the middle eight which... I couldn't remember the lyrics in Japanese, but the translation was something like "it doesn't seem so scary if I'm with you" which pretty much sums up SO MUCH of what I loved about the cast, culminating of course in Ban and Ginji themselves. The entire SERIES THEME is basically "Life is scary, but we can get through it if we have each other" so I just loved that line to pieces. (Somehow the fact that the visual was Hevn and Natsumi just dancing happily with each other for no reason made it even better. :D)

I don't tend to listen to a lot of Japanese music outside anime OP/ED but I probably should listen to more USQ because like... While I'm watching I'll hear a song and go "oh wow this song is so good - wait, is this..." and yes, it is them again. So it seems I do genuinely like the style, hahah.

AYRT - Aww, that's so nice. Hevn and Natsumi have always been my favorite thing about that op sequence, they are so cute! But something about Barairo no Sekai (and Mr Dejavu for that matter, even though I love both sequences...) just makes me so sad. Probably the timing, some songs from that era hurt only because they remind me of simpler times lol.

This! Their style is so happy and cute!

Yeah, association is a weird thing. Like I mentioned that T&B gave me panic attacks for years... even when season 2 came out, I was like "Well doubt I'll get to watch it for awhile so I'll rewatch season 1 so I'll be prepared whenever that happens." And like, just watching the chase sequence that starts episode 1 and introduces everyone sent me into a panic attack for no reason OTHER THAN the fact that my body and/or brain remembers that when I watched this before, I had a panic attack going.

...And then season 2 started off basically with a remix of that same chase to reintroduce the characters and introduce the new ones, and THAT sent me into a panic attack too. -_- Didn't stop until I just went "SCREW YOU BRAIN, THIS SHOW IS AWESOME" and marathoned both Blu-Rays over the space of two days and forced it to deal... and then Orion wo Nazoru was stuck in my head for a couple weeks and I didn't mind one bit. :D

So yeah. Things going on in life when you hear music... it can make it a little weird.

...And I just realized I have a Kotetsu and Barnaby icon that looks oddly similar to the ol' Masaki/Teshimine one, lol.

AYRT - oh my that's horrible. Glad you managed to get over it and enjoy the show!! Disensitizing (...did I even type that correctly? ok.) to it seems to have been a pain, though. :(

Thanks! And... well, it sort of wasn't that much of a pain aside from just deciding to suck it up? It is such a fun show to watch. And due to the panic attacks, I hadn't watched it in ten years and had forgotten about things like the episode 3 conversation about "That is a building. That is also a building. In fact all of those building-shaped things are buildings", and wound up laughing my butt off before long. :D

I should probably make myself do the same thing with Get Backers actually. I tried a rewatch back when I was having those panic attacks, thinking it might be comforting, but there was nothing that would break them at the time. It would probably work a lot better now. And this thread's got me thinking about it... <3

AYRT - Aww. Oh my, I have memories of this sentence! Yeah, I was in a bad place mentally for a while after T&B (and watched a lot of anime compulsively during that phase) and sometimes I rewatch stuff from back then and am like... did I ever watch this? Clearly I wasn't thinking straight then, because I don't remember any of it. Or remember one bit that doesn't matter at all in the grand scheme of things. So I know how fun it is to rewatch something and go "hey, at least I am doing better now". :)

Aww, man... I really wanna do it. Where are the remnants of the old fandom? I wasn't part of it (IIRC I only watched it after being asked by a friend many times, and then regretted not watching it before!) but it would be fun to do it with other people now.

Hah, yeah, I finally "rewatched" The Rising too, and literally remembered none of it except having seen the opening sequence and being really jealous of everyone who got to see it in a theater. :P Definitely better when you're doing okay enough to digest these things!

As for the old fandom... not sure if you mean GB or T&B? Get Backers fandom for me was basically "me and a group of friends that got into it after one of us got into it and talked us into watching it", plus a few people I met via a very old RP on... what was that place, GreatestJournal I think? The larger fandom kinda fell apart when the manga stopped getting translated, but had a resurgence about ten years ago when ...I think a scanlation team finished what the official translation didn't. (And for the same reasons... I never checked that out. I really should.)

T&B fandom is scattered much like all older fandoms that used to congregate on LJ, as far as I can tell. I've got a small group of folks I mostly either already knew (most of whom I dragged into it with me) or that I met via cons and cosplay, one of them made a Facebook group and now a Discord, but it's pretty scarce. Kind of Discord where no one says anything for several days then one of us finds something and we have an hour long discussion before disappearing again, hahah.

...Also I um. Just discovered that people had been discussing one of my old T&B fics on Twitter awhile back... so I guess there's some fandom there I just hadn't crossed paths with. (Presently incredibly flattered, but also "omg people can see me?!".)

AYRT - GB I meant. Aw... That's a pity. I never read the manga, didn't know it ended that long ago. Yeah, this friend who recommended GB to me ages ago, we met on... a Neopets guild, actually. No idea of where GB fans were active lol. But a lot of people liked it so I was hoping a fandom would still exist, even if small.

Much like EVERY fandom? I don't even know where fandoms gather anymore. It's me and my 2 pals on Tumblr/Twitter. Back when LJ communities were still around there were rewatch sessions, like the CG community did (in my mind that was yesterday, but "yesterday" probably means 9 years ago) and that shared "didn't notice that before / MISSED THAT SCENE" experience was neat. Discord, huh? Sounds good! Maybe I will... make an account.

It's crazy how some old fandoms still exist but the way they work is a mystery tbh. Seeing Ouran Host Club for sale on Hot Topic (in prime 2021) made me reminisce it, and then I learned on Twitter that some people believe TikTok launched my favorite obscure OKHC ship (!?) and this is why there's been so much fic on AO3 recently. Apparently fandoms gather on TikTok?? What's that?? Sometimes I follow fanartists for old series I like only to find out they're minors? I even exchanged Oofuri fics with a kid?? What is the world coming to?

... Anyway, shock aside. Yeah, some old fandoms still exist Somewhere, pretty sure of it. No idea where that is, though. (Maybe TikTok.)

Hah, you're right - EVERY fandom these days. I guess the scattering is just more obvious when there used to be a place that the fandom congregated.

...I dusted off my own Tumblr to try to read some tags last night, and that was tedious enough, but if fandom's gathering on Tiktok? Uhhh. I'll just be hiding with my fellow old folks.

(And I think the GB manga was still ongoing in the very very long last arc, when the official translation ended only a little ways into it :P My ex and I, we pretty much got together thanks to shipping Emishi/Amon instantly when Amon showed up, so when we got scans of the last manga chapter we just DIED even though we were not entirely sure wtf was going on there. :D)
