Re: Johnny Depp & Amber Heard

I listened to a big chunk of that audio back when it first went up online quite a long time ago, and it was the thing that made me inclined to view AH as the primary abuser in their dynamic. I'm still not comfortable arguing JD wasn't also abusive--that's just not something I have the information to determine--but the way their dynamic comes across in that recording definitely suggests very strongly that she is predominantly the aggressor and he is predominantly the one trying to appease. I felt very bad for the man in that video, truthfully--he seems lost and desperate. That said, that video is not the entire picture, and shouldn't be treated like it is.

I see what you're saying, but AH says in this video that he always, in her words, "splits" when they get into arguments, sometimes even before things have escalated to physical violence. That, to me, would imply that JD never fights back, since he's always leaving when it looks like things are about to escalate.

I don't disagree. I found that audio really disturbing specifically because JD came across so bewildered and desperate to find solid ground, while AH came across as seeking to gain ground and keep him wrongfooted. I did not personally get the impression, from that audio, that JD was abusive. I did get the impression he was abused. I'm just not personally comfortable saying there was definitely never any mutually abusive incidents in their relationship.

That said, I'm inclined to give JD the benefit of the doubt at least enough to be sympathetic to his situation. By the sound of things he's never had much of an emotional support system in his life, but I hope he's getting a lot of help.

Yeah, that's fair.
