As an autistic/adhd/other stuff person myself... I just want to let you know, that it's something I've discovered recently. When neurotypical people say things like "I wonder why" they apparently don't actually wonder and it's just a saying.

Completely blew my mind. But recently a lot of things like that have been. It's no wonder life's so difficult to navigate if people aren't actually saying what they mean.

...and then they have to be an asshole because of that? Man, neurotypical people are weird

I'm neurotypical and when I say "I wonder why," I really mean it, and I assume most people mean it that way too except in situations where they're being sarcastic. For example, "Hmm, you haven't eaten all day and now you say you don't feel well? Gee, I wonder why." Is that what you mean? I know sarcasm is a barrier when you're autistic, but IME those sarcastic "I wonder why"s are not nearly as common as genuine ones.

I'm having a little trouble following the original secret but it the author "wondered" if this story took place in the same universe as another one that they wrote, I'm assuming it was meant to be a "wink, wink" kind of thing and not a legit question.

With that said, their response was unnecessarily obnoxious. If they couldn't manage a "good job picking that up!" to a fan that has clearly read multiple series of theirs, they should have just ignored it.

Yeah, I'm a little confused. If they wrote both, surely they would know if they took place in the same universe? It's hard to understand the exact situation without context, but either way, no reason to be rude.

Assuming they weren't being literal, it's not an unusual way to phrase it. I know I've watched at least a couple of family sitcoms/cartoons where someone has prepared a surprise gift for someone else and has said something along the lines of "I wonder who this could be for?" or "I wonder what this could be?" when they "find" the envelope/box/pony with a bow on it that they're going to give the other person. I could sort of understand the author being annoyed if OP posted their answer to a public forum, since it sounds like this was supposed to be an Easter Egg and their answer might have been spoilery if you hadn't read both series. But even so, the response went over the top and it sounds like this was a PM anyway? It's all a little mysterious.

Oh, yeah, I've definitely seen stuff in shows (and occasionally real life) where people would make comments like your examples, but to put that in a fic where there are presumably going to be a bunch of people you don't know reading it, and things can be weird in text sometimes, anyway...IDK, it's just sort of a strange comment to make, to me.

But if it was supposed to be an easter egg or something, I feel like it's kind of oddly worded. I feel like it would've been more like "see if you can figure out what other fic of mine takes place in the same universe!" or something, because if it was just "does this takes place in the same universe as fic X?" then the answer is either yes or no, and that's not a fun thing to try to figure out, as I feel like easter eggs should be.

I don't know, I'm putting way too much thought into this lol.

I phrased it too vaguely, sorry...the author was wondering if the manga series the fic was about, was in the same universe as another CLAMP manga series

Ah, that makes sense. And yeah, that person obviously had issues. Why make a point of writing out that you wonder about something, then get pissed off when someone actually answers you? If, like someone else commented, they were just idly wondering and didn't actually want an answer, it was weird to put it in the notes. I feel like anything you post anywhere online, there's always a chance that someone's going to respond to it, so if it's something that's going to bother you if someone comments on it, you should just keep it to yourself.

Sorry that person was a jerk!
