(Anonymous) 2022-06-06 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)I get why you'd like that. I personally don't in J-KDramas, but I think that in foreigner settings the sexism and other "-ism" is more tollerable.
I'm AFAB and lived and worked in Japan for years, so I really don't like Japanese slice of life drama where the women are treated as the classic "Christmas Cake" or when the heroine's sole purpose is getting married and having kids. I hate that because I've seen that and people have said similar things to me.
BUT. BUT!!! I play Otome games sometimes and the sexism is rampant there. AND I LOVE IT. It's because I can pretend to be that one heroine and even if I have an adventure and can save the day, and the end the only thing I want is "a place to belong" a "safety net".
I do think this is why ABO or very sexist trope exist. People want to "belong" to a place in society. Having strict rules to follow IN FANTASY is a comfort.
Real life is way more complicated and there are a lot of more conficting feelings and I don't think that people IRL would be fine having a certain role imposed on them because of their gender. I surely don't. But in fantasy? Hell yeah. It's simple and fun!!!
