(Anonymous) 2022-06-07 08:55 am (UTC)(link)TL;DR. If you don't like something, stay out of fandom places or talk about something you were positive about instead.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-07 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)The anon that doesn’t like the movies is right about the aggressive advertising of the MCU for sure, though.
Both sides should learn not to read comments if they don’t want to hear different opinions. As should anyone that posts in public spaces but gets upset whenever someone responds to them with anything short of agreement or praise. If the person is being an asshole or trolling, that’s one thing. It’s another when it’s they treat different points of view like an attack.

On one hand, I'd agree, *if* it were a place where it was exclusively MCU fans, then, those people would be assholes and it'd simply be easier to ignore them, troll them, or if possible, outright ban them.
On the other, places like *here*, where it's a mix of everyone and not exclusively one or the other? Learn to ignore the comments.

Ye gads the advertising is aggressive, that I agree on.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-08 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)I just think the same should be said about people who hate the MCU, and how they react to positive secrets. If one side should ignore the comments because they can’t stand negativity, the other side should too if they can’t stand positivity. That’s what I was trying to say. Not that people shouldn’t be allowed to say their thoughts if it goes against something, because I’m aware this isn’t a MCU fansite. I’m personally fine with negative secrets and comments about it, because I’m meh on a lot of it, and fell behind quite a while ago. I just think your advice should go both ways in general. Not necessarily in regards to this secret though, because it was both negative and valid, and the defensive MCU fan was in the wrong the act like people should just shut up if they don’t have anything positive to say about the MCU.
It’s even valid for people to go into the thread for positive MCU secrets to complain about it, even if I think it’s occasionally a waste of time. They’re allowed to say whatever they want. Because they’ve already read the secret, so it’s not like they should just keep their opinions to themselves if they don’t agree with it. But they should probably avoid the comments if they don’t want to hear anything positive about the MCU. If they can handle positivity around it but have complaints or constructive criticism about it, and want to discuss it with fans, that’s perfectly fine and good. To me it’s just all about whether the person can handle opposing views or not that determines whether they should probably avoid comments. You were right in saying the defensive anon you were replying to should not have read the comments in a secret they knew wouldn’t be completely positive. I wasn’t trying to disagree with that.
I just think in general people shouldn’t get mad at someone for having an opinion they disagree with, or for replying to them with another point of view as if doing so is an attack on them or their opinions. As long as that person wasn’t being a troll or an asshole about it.
Sorry for the ramble!

(Anonymous) 2022-06-07 12:41 am (UTC)(link)The obnoxious fans are the minority but I think it’s a much larger minority than other fandoms and in other part because of how mainstream it is. I’m all for people enjoying what they enjoy but have reached the point where I detest the MCU just because of how many times in casual social situations I’ve had fans demand I justify not being a fan. “I’m just not” is never enough for them and I finally reached the point where I will happily explain to them in detail why I find literally all other media ever produced to be more entertaining.
