Meanwhile I'm super excited. I love big universes.

Samesies. I wish everyone who is moaning about how it is all not worth their time would just fuck off and be negative somewhere else. If they don't like it, fine, but don't piss all over it and try to ruin it for the rest of us.

Hard to fuck off when it's constantly being advertised as loudly as possible and dominating theaters every other week.

You don't have to come onto the internet and forums and whinge about it. That is your choice. You could just, not. Do literally anything else instead. Talk about something you enjoyed instead. You chose to come on and try and make everyone else feel bad, and to suck any joy out of the room. You want it to fail, and are willing to make others feel bad to try and make it happen, but it ain't gonna happen and you are left with just adding a little bit of extra misery into other people's lives instead. All because you can't just take a moment to talk about something you like instead.

TL;DR. If you don't like something, stay out of fandom places or talk about something you were positive about instead.

You'd have a point if we were in a fan community dedicated to Marvel. Unfortunately for you, both negative and positive opinions are allowed on F!S. If you think someone voicing a negative opinion about something you like is "trying to make you feel bad" you need to work on your insecurity issues.

You could just not read the comments either, you know.

Considering people who dislike the MCU frequently talk about how much they don’t care in places where it’s being talked about even remotely positively, including secret threads, they should take this advice too.

The anon that doesn’t like the movies is right about the aggressive advertising of the MCU for sure, though.

Both sides should learn not to read comments if they don’t want to hear different opinions. As should anyone that posts in public spaces but gets upset whenever someone responds to them with anything short of agreement or praise. If the person is being an asshole or trolling, that’s one thing. It’s another when it’s they treat different points of view like an attack.

On one hand, I'd agree, *if* it were a place where it was exclusively MCU fans, then, those people would be assholes and it'd simply be easier to ignore them, troll them, or if possible, outright ban them.

On the other, places like *here*, where it's a mix of everyone and not exclusively one or the other? Learn to ignore the comments.

The anon that doesn’t like the movies is right about the aggressive advertising of the MCU for sure, though.

Ye gads the advertising is aggressive, that I agree on.

I was mostly referring to you responding to someone defending the MCU and complaining about people not liking it that they should just not read the comments. Meaning that if they don’t like hearing negativity around the MCU, they shouldn’t read the comments, especially if it’s a negative secret about it. I agree with that.

I just think the same should be said about people who hate the MCU, and how they react to positive secrets. If one side should ignore the comments because they can’t stand negativity, the other side should too if they can’t stand positivity. That’s what I was trying to say. Not that people shouldn’t be allowed to say their thoughts if it goes against something, because I’m aware this isn’t a MCU fansite. I’m personally fine with negative secrets and comments about it, because I’m meh on a lot of it, and fell behind quite a while ago. I just think your advice should go both ways in general. Not necessarily in regards to this secret though, because it was both negative and valid, and the defensive MCU fan was in the wrong the act like people should just shut up if they don’t have anything positive to say about the MCU.

It’s even valid for people to go into the thread for positive MCU secrets to complain about it, even if I think it’s occasionally a waste of time. They’re allowed to say whatever they want. Because they’ve already read the secret, so it’s not like they should just keep their opinions to themselves if they don’t agree with it. But they should probably avoid the comments if they don’t want to hear anything positive about the MCU. If they can handle positivity around it but have complaints or constructive criticism about it, and want to discuss it with fans, that’s perfectly fine and good. To me it’s just all about whether the person can handle opposing views or not that determines whether they should probably avoid comments. You were right in saying the defensive anon you were replying to should not have read the comments in a secret they knew wouldn’t be completely positive. I wasn’t trying to disagree with that.

I just think in general people shouldn’t get mad at someone for having an opinion they disagree with, or for replying to them with another point of view as if doing so is an attack on them or their opinions. As long as that person wasn’t being a troll or an asshole about it.

Sorry for the ramble!

This is a whole lot just to say 'learn to ignore the comments'.

+1

not to mention every other media property deciding it has to do something like this now

(Anonymous) 2022-06-07 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
This is exactly why I don’t really say anything about MCU. But pre-pandemic I found myself in A LOT of situations where MCU fans thought everyone was a fan and acted horribly whenever they found someone didn’t love the most amazingly perfect thing to ever exist.
The obnoxious fans are the minority but I think it’s a much larger minority than other fandoms and in other part because of how mainstream it is. I’m all for people enjoying what they enjoy but have reached the point where I detest the MCU just because of how many times in casual social situations I’ve had fans demand I justify not being a fan. “I’m just not” is never enough for them and I finally reached the point where I will happily explain to them in detail why I find literally all other media ever produced to be more entertaining.

This, honestly. Don't get me wrong, life is getting in the way of a lot of it for me, but I do intend to catch up.

I was quietly ignoring MCU after Endgame.. and then they gave me Moon Knight and I was like "OK, what did I miss, and where do I start?"

That's how I felt about Eternals. And then Doctor Strange 2. Now I'm all in for the multiverse.
