I actually always loved author's notes, and felt this interaction was superior than with the "officially published peeps", because I get insight in the writing process.

Author's notes are honestly one of my favourite things. I like to know little snippets of the life and personality of the person who wrote when I've been enjoying.

Agreeing with everyone else, I really like the author's notes, they're charming and endearing and it's a nice reminder that this is something being made by a fan for fannish purposes.
