I heard/read somewhere that that specific color of dye was invented during the 'Gilded age' or whatever it was called. And it would obviously have been fancy and expensive, so...? No idea if it's true.

But yeah, there were a couple of celebs who went to the same designer and they all had the bright pink, so it could just be they trusted an 'expert' when they shouldn't have.

NAYRT--the first synthetic dyes made from coal tar derivatives showed up in I think the 1860s, so a bit early for gilded age fashion, but they were definitely still being used into the 1890s. The very first was called mauveine and a very bright purple, rather than pink.
