Fuck that noise. What a load of bollocks.

Oh? Care to explain why it's bollocks? Or do you think a flat statement of no facts, or even a coherent opinion, is good enough?

Sure. Not allowing people to change and regret is the death of a movement. You see it over and over again in history. You have to allow for people moving on for progress to succeed. Otherwise people get tired of the bloodshed (literal or metaphorical) and give up on the new ideology.

I see. You're approaching it from a macro scale, and you're right. So, fair enough.

But I was talking about it from a smaller scale: Society vs the individual. And Society has never hesitated to shun and destroy an individual who has done something society doesn't like.

I'm talking about the people who've done things relatively harmless like making off-color jokes on twitter, or made racist shit-posts on Facebook fifteen years ago. To those who've committed more serious crimes like the man who abused his wife and kids. I'm even talking about rapists and murderers.

These people either through growing up and learning better, to serving prison time, or some other personal revelation could change, never commit those acts again, and become better people, and society still wouldn't care. Because it's safer, less work, and more emotionally pleasing to simply crush and excise those people. And society uses meaningless terms like 'accountability' and 'suffering the consequences of their actions' to cover up the fact what they really want is to punish without limit. Because at the end of the day accountability and consequences means a thousand different things to a thousand different people, which means any punishment, no matter how inhumane, goes.

To most societies, those found guilty had their shot, and they failed, so now they're done. Forever. Because there are. No. Second. Chances.
