What should I watch next?

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2022-06-16 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I just finished Golden Girls. Before that, I finished I Love Lucy, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Parks and Rec, and Roseanne (original run). I didn't like Community or The Office. In the past I've watched most of Seinfeld, Friends, Arrested Development, Malcolm in the Middle, Bob's Burgers, and The Simpsons.

What should I watch next in my hunt for the next "not super heavy watching" show? I was thinking MASH? But am open to other shows. Animated or live action.

The Critic (1994), Married With Children (1987), or Three's Company (1977)?

Oh man, I loved Married With Children as a kid. I wonder if it holds up.

DA I loved Married With Children as a kid and honestly, most of it holds up as an adult.

Cheers. 80s hetero bullshit aside, it holds up better than most of its contemporaries.

The Shelley Long eps were great. Kirstie Alley is a terrible actress though, plus the writing got dumbed way down when she showed up.

Newsradio (first four seasons, don't watch the fifth season) if you can track it down, but it's unfortunately very hard to track down.

Is that one of those shows where music rights have completely fucked over the chance of being streamed?

Not so far as I know! It's more just that the only people who remember it are sitcom nerds and no one who was in it is famous for being good at acting. But it had a ton of heart, it was incredibly funny, the stars - Dave Foley, Maura Tierney, Phil Hartman, Stephen Root - are amazingly good in it, and the supporting cast is solid, even the ones who've never been funny or good in anything else.

God, the Devil, and Bob
It’s a cartoon from the late 90s starring James Garner and French Stewart. Very Good Omens-ey in some ways (the book, I didn’t watch the show)

Derry Girls. It's a comedy set in Ireland in the 1990s, you get the social and political scenario of the time along with realistic and funny and sometimes heartbreaking situations. Highly recommended!

Schitt's Creek, Scrubs, Daria.
If you like Golden Girls, you might like Designing Women

Love Schitt's Creek. Liked most of Scrubs. I'll give Daria and Designing Women a shot. Thanks.

In the same vein as The Golden Girls and I Love Lucy 'My Favourite Martian' is a great 30min sitcom about unusual roommates. Some reruns have been airing on a local channel and I've been enjoying it immensely. Very likable characters getting themselves into, and then out of, all sorts of trouble.

MCU threesome PWPs and magic used for sex

[personal profile] philstar22 2022-06-17 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
1. Looking for PWPs for some specific threesome ships: Steve/Bucky/Peggy, Steve/Bucky/Sam, Steve/Bucky/Thor, Thor/Valkyrie/Sif, or Thor/Valkyrie/Jane.

2. Looking for fics, especially PWPs, where magic is used in interesting ways for sexual purposes. Any kind of magic.

Maybe I could use some. I don't remember watching a single movie I LOVED in the theater in the past 10 years - the last one I remember watching upon release that felt right up my alley was The King's Speech. Sometimes I want to watch a movie, so I go on Netflix and search for "90s movies". Don't know why, I enjoyed movies back then. 90s Miramax did it for me, for one. It's something about... the perfect balance between "corny and silly" and "psychological and pretentious", "commercial flick" and "indie movie". Netflix originals often feel TOO pretentious for me. MCU is the opposite. etc.

Some "Oscar baits" are like that, but not all. It's not that I wasn't interested in any movie released in the past 10 years, maybe I wasn't lucky enough to watch the ones I would enjoy in the theater. So I want to ask of you movie suggestions from the past 10 years in that vein. If I had to attempt to sum it up: like a 90s movie, not too silly or too #deep, more character-driven (?), not directed by Woody Allen. Thanks!

A Royal Night Out. VE Day, Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret go out into the crowds (this actually happened) and then there's a lot of exciting stuff that didn't actually happen.

The Grand Budapest Hotel is a favourite of mine for telling a story in a really fun way.

Paddington 2 is fantastic as well. Especially if you like character driven stories.
