Is this about him not taking a stance either way on abortion?

(Anonymous) 2022-06-18 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
I was gonna guess it was about him discouraging people from being excited about an eclipse.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-18 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
It could be all of the above, and more. His general douchbaggery has been growing for a couple of years.

So the typical iconoclast career projectory is just... old people? Go figure.

Seriously though, Neil's always been kind of a dick. The only difference now is that he's being a dick performatively, whereas before it was just him doing what came natural.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-18 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
He's that particular kind of dick where he's so smart that he thinks he's right about everything and never sees the need for fact checking outsiders his speciality or humility outside his experience.

*outside

(Anonymous) 2022-06-18 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
A subset of old people, but I know plenty of people in their 60s on up that didn't turn into incurious condescending assholes.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-18 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, but the progression from young idealist to bitter old crank is still common enough to have been a cultural touchstone since the ancient Greeks complained about the less ancient Greeks playing their music too loud and spending their drachma frivolously.

I just felt furious about him basically saying lunar eclipses aren't cool or noteworthy?! Wtf man.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-18 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Obviously he has never seen a full lunar eclipse where the moon appears ruby red.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-18 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess they aren't technically noteworthy, but that shouldn't stop them from being enjoyed. Unless you can afford to travel, they don't come around every year.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-18 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
They come around a lot more often than solar eclipses so at this point I've seen multiple full lunar eclipses and while they are still cool, I'm no longer going to schedule my life around being able to watch the whole thing or be disappointed if it's cloudy.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-18 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
It is the Dawkins trajectory.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-18 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude needs to stay in his lane. He's wrong often enough about science facts that aren't in his field and still acts like he's the smartest guy around.
