OP (if you haven't tried it yet) you might like Strange New Worlds, too. It's bright, episodic with some arc-plots, and there's a fair amount of light-hearted comedy in there, too. There's a bit of room to breathe.

I love me some BL, but I must admit that I’ve never encountered this particular dynamic in the manga I’ve read. I’ve seen it a bunch in fanfic though and it always bugged the crap out of me, but I can understand why people would like it.
